In the summer of 2023, Hyatt acquired Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Mr. & Mrs. Smith is essentially a luxury hotel booking platform and travel agency — the company doesn’t manage hotels, but rather just gets a commission when you book through it, and offers you some perks in exchange.

A world of hyatt chase card holder could wait until January 1st, buy $15,000 worth of these gift certificates and qualify for globalist while also walking away with 75k hyatt points, two category 1-4 nights, one category 1-7 night, 4 suite upgrade awards, and $15k to burn at mrs & mrs smiths. All in, that wouldnt be that bad of a deal.

I was just thinking the same thing, this could be a less expensive way to close the gap between actual nights stayed and the Globalist threshold compared to the normal 2 nights/$5000 spend on the personal card...unless we're missing something?

Even better - what are the resale possibilities for Mr/Mrs Smith gift cards? If it is allowed and you only lose 10-20% of face value, it could be an inexpensive path to Globalist

Thanks for the inspiration. Not sure I'll go as far as $15K, but may very well be leveraging this strategy.

Seems useless promo, why going to purchase a gift card if not earning anything while using it? It would be better just directly purchase the room with cash….

It would not. With this gift card offer, Hyatt is essentially making ALL Smith properties earning-eligible. You'll earn your 5 points / dollar on spend, plus you'll earn an elite night based on an average per-night cost of $300 per night. If you purchase the night with cash, you'll pay the same rate and earn nothing with Hyatt.

Plus something on the spend -- if you got two new Inks, for example, that's another 180,000 UR points, transferrable to Hyatt.

Beyond inexpensive path to Globalist, it could be an inexpensive path to Lifetime. I'm shocked they didn't think this through... unless they're planning to devalue that. Which feels like the more likely outcome these days.

Not really "inexpensive." Regular spend on Hyatt is 5x base pts / $1, so it's the same expensive. It's probably safer to buy Hyatt gift cards rather than Mr&Mrs Smith gift cards, because generally easier to spend.

Theres a limit to how much you can buy.

Mr/Mrs Smith gift cards seem to expire after 2 years so I highly doubt the resell value is high

Tried purchasing a gift card but it seems like their backend isn't sorted out yet because I haven't received the gift card yet.

Q and A does say you will also earn WoH credit card 4 X bonus.

Ryan, can you explain how the $15,000 spend qualifies one for Globalist? I could conceivably use the gift certificates for a European trip next year.

Any great mid-price hotels? I tried the Cambria Beach Lodge and it was just a motel. In a great location but zero luxury.

The problem with buying status through these gift cards is that you then have to stay at Mr and Mrs Smith hotels where your status is useless.

$15000 worth of gift cards using the WoH credit card earns you:

1. $15K / $300 = 50 elite night credits as per this promotion
2. Every $5K of WoH card spend earns 2 elite nights = (15K / 5K) * 2 = 6 elite nights
3. You get 5 elite nights annually for having the WoH card

The total of 61 elite nights would make you Globalist.

Additionally, you should end up with 90K Hyatt points:
1. $15K * 5 = 75K points for the promotion
2. Earn 1 Hyatt point per dollar on WoH card = 15K Hyatt points

If you also choose points for the 40 elite night milestone, you'll end up with 95K Hyatt points

If you have the WOH Chase card, you get 5 status-qualifying nights just for having it on January 1 of each year (or at least very close to January 1). Thus, you actually need 55 nights and not 60 nights to achieve Globalist status. 55 nights at $300 for 1 night with this promotion = $16,500, right?

Well, for each $5,000 you spend on the WOH Chase card, you get 2 status qualifying nights. So for spending $15,000 on this promotion, you get 6 status qualifying nights, so then you're at 11 nights with the initial 5 nights for having the card, and really only need 49 nights for Globalist. If you spend $15,000, you'll actually be at 61 nights and all set for the year.

In addition, you'd get 75,000 hyatt points for the promotion plus another 15,000 hyatt points for spending on the card. It's not that bad of an idea.

@DC - the promotion that Hyatt is offering is gaming in itself - it does seem like a good idea to get the gift cards and resell. If you're not into it, maybe you should not read a points blog.

I would be surprised if this were not driven by some terms in the merger agreement guaranteeing minimum bookings, etc that means Hyatt would have to pony up additional cash or modify terms of the acquisition.

Does the night credited occur imediately upon purchasing the gift certificate?

Thalanil - if you can resell them at, say, 90% of face value, then you can get 90% off Hyatt LT Globalist status. That's comparatively inexpensive in my book.

That's not a very kind thing to say to a perfect stranger @maxwell. He possibly is new at this or didn't think through it. I don't really see a need for anyone to make personal attacks online. I am grateful for these articles and even more grateful for the comments from readers at the end of the article to learn even more. But I really don't like to see readers being unkind to each other. I think we can share useful information without being cruel.

As society we've made such great progress on LGBTQ2+A issues over the last few years - would have been nice if they opted for something more inclusive than Mr. and Mrs. - 'Mx. and Mx. Smith' has a nice tone to it I'd say.

“My assumption is that Hyatt is working toward offering World of Hyatt perks for Mr. & Mrs. Smith bookings, but only when booking them through Hyatt’s website.”

“This promotion is better than nothing if you want to earn Hyatt credit for stays with Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but I’d recommend waiting to see how reciprocity between Hyatt and Mr. & Mrs. Smith will work.”

Question - why would Hyatt have a promotion for Mr and Mrs Smith gift cards, which aren't valid at Hyatt and never expire, if it's planning on folding MMS into Hyatt soon? Seems to me this Hyatt’s way of saying that MMS will remain separate and sadly not bookable with Hyatt points. Or am I just totally misreading this???

Can we stack this promotion with the American/Hyatt stays challenge?

Platinum Pro and above only need 20 nights within 3 months to get Globalist

I’m curious how that looks because I’m currently in the 6 month 20% loyalty point/miles bonus window with AA after reaching 60k loyalty points.

I have AA’s world elite executive mastercard but not WoH

Melinda,
i dont offer Grace to people who are Brash + Wrong in their comments.
Ifs one thing if he said " i cant see the value in the promotion". If hes new at this, that would be even more reason to be cautious with your statement, as not to seem ignorant

You're totally misreading this.

Try: We're planning on folding MMS into Hyatt, but it's harder/taking longer than we thought, so this is something we're able to do in the meantime.

It's annoying to have to repost my response to this again, but here we go:

As a gay man, there is literally nothing wrong with Mr & Mrs Smith's name. Stop choosing/pretending to be offended by nothing

Lucky, can you do us all a favor and caption the names of the hotels in your photos? Those are obviously some very beautiful and scenic spots and I'm sure many of us would like to know where that is, so we could potentially stay there at some point.

It's not just this post, but in all your posts, you choose not to caption the photo with the name of the hotel. I'm not sure if that is on purpose, or what. Anyway, just a thought. Cheers!

If you were to do this, when would be the best month to complete the 60 nights so you can take full advantage of total months in the Globalist program?

Where are you seeing that? I’m reading that you’re able to get the usual credit card points - in this case 1x non bonused for WoH since the gift cards are sold by Redeam, not Hyatt directly

Theoretically, if you did three 7 night trips at high end hotels with club lounges and a parking fee next year, and three the following year; for 15k it would be very possible to get:

$2k 90k points
$1500 2 cat 1-4 and 1 cat 1-7 certs
$5k upgrades on 45 nights
$10k free breakfast
$10k free dinners in club lounge
$2k free parking
$15k Mr and Mrs Smith gift cards

If you were new to chase and signed up for every personal and business chase bank card and hyatt card, you could get another 550k points for zero dollars buy using the $900 from the biz card thst is only cash back to pay for all annual fees.

You could then ms to get another 750k points and 2 more cat 1-4 certs for approximately $2500.

All those points added together would pay for 42 nights at the best Hyatts in the world during peak season. Call that another $40k in value.

So for $17,500, you could theoretically get $80k worth of value.

No, this is not a parody account and if has nothing to do with politics - only to do with inclusivity and treating all persons with respect. Hard to wrap your head around, dink?

I have an upcoming stay at one of these properties so I think it makes sense to buy gift cards and rebook as I need a few more qualifying nights. But what is the best card to purchase with if not able to double dip? I assume not the Hyatt card?

Wow, I just looked at their portfolio of hotels and it's quite amazing. If this is really going to be fully integrated into Hyatt this will be a game changer. Imagine being able to book Soho House as a Hyatt!?!

Naw, you suck. Expecting 90% of society to accommodate you is selfish and self-absorbed. Which fits today's society of over coddled snowflakes.

Parody account indeed.

Not sure if this has been mentioned - but if your American Airlines is linked to your hyatt account, these gift card purchases also result in 1 mile/ 1LP per dollar spent on Mr and Mrs Smith gift cards in addition to earning hyatt base points and EQNs

So it IS confirmed that buying the gift cards on a Hyatt credit card will count as a Hyatt purchase? Thanks for taking a second to answer. The promotion is over, but I'm part of a small group of folks that had trouble making purchases on the special website portal that was set up before the promotion ended. (Hyatt reached out to those of us that reported it to our Conceriges, and gave us a pathway to purchase. So I need to know very soon if anyone can confirm that it does count as a Hyatt purchase on the Hyatt cards)
