I've stayed at Jumeirah next door on the beginning of May, and Grand Hyatt seemed just weird. It was all dusty from top to bottom, so no one cleaned the windows, which contrasted with Jumeirah hotel greatly. Their pool actually had some people (guests?) in it, but very few comparing to the hotels next door, and the lights were on in like 1/5 of the rooms at night. The entrance and sign were lit up.
Seemed very strange all around.
BTW, Jumeirah was really really good.
Hoping the JW Marriott in Dubai (Deira) reopens as well. Sad to see it shut down unexpectedly last week.
We stayed there a couple days ago, very quiet, no other guests at check in but was upgraded to their one bedroom residence suite. Pool was open, restaurant too but choices were very limited. I tried asking why there’s no one else and was told it’s ramadan time and it’s usually quiet. Overall a nice hotel, service was friendly and we felt like royalty, having the entire place to ourselves, since we’ve only seen one other guest at breakfast time during our entire stay there.

Funny - I was in the hotel just 2 weeks earlier. Yea, it was really dirty... like you I was also perplexed by the few people running around and lights being on on several levels.
