Sounds like typical Dutch customer service...
Try ordering a glass of water in a restaurant when in Amsterdam. I lived there for six months and was told regularly, no we don't have that. But, that being said, teh Dutch are friendly, customer service is just not their strong suit.
I can't say I like the overall decor of the room, but I LOVE the blue and white Dutch tile in the shower. Very cool and very traditional Dutch.
The fact that they did not give you an upgrade to the Canal View room is completely against the Hyatt T&C and just as you would tweet Starwood if denied an available suite upgrade, you should complain to hyatt at [email protected] and see what they can do to help. This is a new hotel and they need to be properly upgrading their Diamond Guests!
Heh, I love that the mistranslated Dutch is still there ("Elk nadeel heeft zijn voordeel" is translated to "Every advantage has its disadvantage", whereas it's actually the opposite, roughly analogous to "Every cloud has its silver lining").
I really loved the staff in the restaurant/bar too. Super friendly!

ROFL! This is definitely not the Andaz experience I've come to expect. I actually love Andaz because they don't pull the super-artsy stunt I see at most W hotels, but this one seems to be an outlier. Hopefully most of the other issues are just related to the newness of the property.
Curious, what makes you love it? The only positives I see here are that it has well-placed outlets. Looks way over-designed to me and the service sounds terrible. I think I'd rather sleep at Schiphol than have an enormous fish spoon stare at me all day!
I do love the hotel and its location, but was really disappointed with the lack of task lighting at the desk area in the King rooms.

Sorry that your experience was less than perfect! My experience there was awesome, and the customer service that we had was world class! They really should have upgraded you, as they had better rooms available. FYI, the Hyatt promo gives you an extra 20% bonus on the 3,000 points after 3 nights if you have the credit card, so you will actually get 2,400 extra points... I have come to expect better of Hyatt and particularly this hotel.

I stayed in precisely the same room (am pretty sure of this re the windows) night of 16 March. I live in Holland and find this hotel by far the top hotel now in Amsterdam. And the mini bar complimentary snack selection, while not copious, was more generous than shown in the photo.
