Lusail is north of the center of Doha but the Lusail Tram which is connected to the Metro Red Line stops right by this property and Place Vendome, so it is accessible from central Doha without dealing with Doha traffic.f
I was at Place Vendome in June right after it opened, although some stores hadn't opened yet and only the McDonalds and the Papa Johns were open in the food court. It's Doha's answer to the Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates - most of the major luxury brands have relocated there, and there are also all the usual, more mid-market retailers. Fun to walk around when it still smelled new and there were almost no shoppers. My guess is it will become the destination mall in Doha once it's fully up and running.
I think the timing of the hotel opening 2 days after the World Cup might be on purpose. The hotel is probably fully booked by media and soccer stars for the World Cup, which is why it is available two days after it ends.

the first guests will arrive on 11 October and it is a group of 100. But public bookings not possible until 22 December. full for the World Cup.
Ofcourse this place is fully booked during World Cup. It is new, stunning, located 2 min walk from newly opened Vendome Luxury shopping mall, great exterior, superior roof tops, enormous gym, plenty of restaurants. Away from city center? I believe center will come there.
