It's a little strange that their graphic representation of points is actual coins/money. You'd think they'd use the Honors logo or something.

I assume this means that the "5th night free" perk (book 4 nights on points; get 5th night free) is long gone?

5th night free perk is staying. But this only makes me stay with Hilton more. While it has the potential to be a devaluation down the line, right now it's actually a positive thing.

I'm wondering if this could be useful to maximize Amex Offers or other Cash back offers on cards. I'm thinking of the recent Amex offer for 3,500 MR points after you spend $250 at Hilton. If you book this way, could you use some points and spend exactly $250 to get the best return on your booking?

Once categories are gone they will be free to change the max values without notification. That has been a pet peeve of Lucky's...

This is definitely not a positive change from those times when you were able to find points+cash rates before - looking at a hotel I booked last year for 24,000+$100, I priced it today for 33,000+$134. 🙁
