Stopovers have to have the same fare class on either end, right? For example, if you fly to Dubai in First, you must also fly your second segment in First. You can't combine classes to be First, then Business, for instance.
I tried this once, and they wouldn't do it, but I wasn't sure if I was just misinformed.
Not anymore. You used to be able to up until maybe a year ago. You can get status with just having one of their credit cards, however.
Just got approved with the Barclay Emirate credit card and got silver status. Hope I can book business or first class award easy.
