Oh no, the story is ending...so sad! I was thinking Beijing and Shanghai for my upcoming trip (burning through some travel credits) but now I am going to look at Hong Kong. Will save Turkey for an award trip and try to score those suites. I'll make 1k in November and then divert any other mileage to aeroplan I suppose...
You're more of a man than I am for that routing. I flew HKG-FRA-ORD in LH F and was pretty tired. I don't think I could have handled the addition of two J class segments in the middle even if they did deliver the nice F experience in BKK. If they add a spa option at the FCT in FRA then forget it! I overnighted in FRA on the return and the afernoon I spent in the FCT was really amazing...
I was not too impressed with the F lounge in MUC. Small feeling with no exterior views. The food was fine and the armanac selection is their big thing there. (some of those Mozart candies also made it into my bag...) I did not get the Merc transfer as the HKG flight boarded from a gate just down the terminal but the F lounge attention to detail there was not good. They came and got me to leave the lounge for the gate but once at the gate they announced boarding would be delayed for 20 minutes. So I trekked back to the lounge and had to "re-enter" (ie: bother the passport guy) for a while. Silly.
I guess you were subject to the *A award availability gods as was I when I booked my trip. I was looking for interesting alternatives such as on NH or SQ or OZ but they weren't available when I booked. I guess I would have liked the opportunity to try Swiss F but I was satisfied with the LH product. There were only 4 of us in F on the HKG-FRA leg...
I believe the ice cream was for after the soup, to sort of cleanse your palate before the main course, like sherbet almost.
