I think they can't fly to the US because regulators have not approved them. They were supposed to have a ewr or jfk route a couple of years ago that did not get approved.
I'm not surprised their cutting first class. After loosing United and American as partners there's no other way to book first class flights with US miles. Let's face it, we yanks have the most miles from easy CC sign ups and now that Delta is barking up their *** were paying more skypesos for jet airways business class than American was charging for first class.
@Ncsam - They flew to the US (Newark via Brussels and San Francisco via Shanghai) for many years and lost millions of dollars doing so. Nothing to do with regulators, just business sense.
And yet Air India can make money flying myraid India-US non stop routes? Ben is just plain ill-informed.
If Delta's POS FF program would allow First class mileage redemptions, those Jet Airways flights would bump their FC load factor tremendously!!
@DT , Who said Air India is making any money. They are just terrible with financial and keep introducing new routes which everyone knows won't make them any profit. Google their loss making records.

Problem with Jet Airways is manifolds. They are trying to cut cost at all ends as they can't get an ear at Etihad. They lost CEO 3 years ago and ETIHAD was acting as defacto decision maker till James Hogan stepped down. The new CEO is coming from Delta and hence all the rumors. Not many Indian want to fly Jet Airways long distance for multiple reasons.
1. No Wifi
2. Fares not that much better (For a reason Emirates/Etihad is considered defacto International Airlines for India. For the same amount of money, I get much better services). Except getting good Indian food, there isn't much upside on buying Jet Airways ticket. Why would I spend that much money and not be on a plane that provides me far superior service.
3. The product is little worn out and isn't maintained on the same level as Etihad/Emirates
4. The cost cutting at Jet Airways is driving Platinums mad.
If they can only fill the canine with non revenue pax, then just cut F and concentrate on better C
@cody the data you looked up ( we all can!) is for all their ops. The US flights make money and are full in premium. I don't fly them but that is a fact.
Non stop jet flights would do very well. Another fact. Don't just fanboy get your facts and analysis right.
@DT Air India is losing shit loads of money on their SFO flight. Their premium cabins are full of mostly non rev passengers. 8 seats in F which are mostly upgrades. Being the only SFO - India non stop, Star Alliance redemptions are super high.
