The Citi ThankYou program is one of the major transferable points currencies. There are lots of ways to redeem Citi ThankYou points, and my favorite uses are transferring them to the airline and hotel partners (typically an instant process), for luxury travel.

Thank you for this, the timing was perfect, as I had to transfer some Amex. points to someone, and I forgot which points expired, and I came across you post from awhile ago with Citi. As I recall, some points expired on you, and I shared your horror; because I forgot which points scheme (Amex vs. Citi vs. JPMC etc.) expired on you, I was able to locate that blog entry and see that I was okay with Amex.

This is one of the many many reasons I follow this awesome blog. Thank you again for doing it!

I have a Double Cash card and I am considering replacing my CSR with Strata Premiere. Is it true that if I were to transfer points from my Double Cash account to the Strata Premiere account, that the transfer would be subject to the same rules as if I transferred to someone else? Would it be limited to 100,000 points/year and subject to a 90 day expiration? Thanks.

@ Mark in MI -- That's going to be a little different, because you could simply link your accounts, and then move them that way. So if you have the Citi Strata Premier and Citi Double Cash open at the same time, you wouldn't be subject to that same limitation.

I’m an authorized user under my mom’s premier card account but like you said every time I try to transfer points to my frequent flyer accounts the name is already filled in. I frequently transfer Amex and chase points to my frequent flyer accounts through my moms account under which I’m an authorized user but I haven’t found a way to do that with Citi. Is this actually just not possible?

@omaat - this article should be updated to reflect that points sharing is no longer allowed.
