Lucky Charms Ireland: Ritz Carlton Powerscourt
When I originally planned our trip to Ireland I had seen the Ritz Carlton Powerscourt, though wasn’t planning on staying there. It looked beautiful, though is about 45 minutes from Dublin, which is a bit too far for a base from which to tour the city. However, during our trip we ended up modifying our…

Did the 85 Euro credit cover afternoon tea? How much was that whole service? The desserts look incredible!
You can still go to Ireland and rent a car, just make sure you fly into, or travel to Northern Ireland and rent a car there. At Sixt for example you can rent most cars when you're 21 and have had your licence for more than a year.
Strangly a Young Driver Surcharge of £11,47 will be added per day, as in most other countries I have rented with Sixt they do not add a YDS.
Hi Lucky,
Heading from BOS>DUB for Thanskgiving and waited to book hotel until you posted the Ritz portion of the trip. Planning to do two nights in Dublin at Conrad Hilton and then one night in Powerscourt.
Any idea if the Ritz Carlton is easily accessible via train?
Is it possible to select seats on EI in advance? We're economy on outside and biz heading home.
Thanks so much!
@ Jim -- Yes, you can select seats in advance, you just have to call Aer Lingus. Your plan sounds great. Unfortunately I don't think there's any way train to Powerscourt, though I believe there are buses that will get you reasonably close.
A stunningly beautiful property and a superb review. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Hi Ben. I too enjoyed my very recent stay. Loved the employees as well. Even the guy that did the turndown service gave a personalized card of the next day's weather forecast. I booked through FHR as well but didn't get an upgrade (no availability) but the room looked very similar to yours and even had a rather large balcony- room 643. Did yours have one as well? Did you do any of the walks/hikes/jogging routes? I did the "riverwalk" which I must say was really good (in a peaceful/ relaxing way). I wanna come back already. Oh, terrific job on the photos. Cheers.
@Jim - You'll have fun at Dublin. Hopefully you'll have the terrific weather that I had this past week. There is a bus route that goes to the village that Lucky was talking about (#44 I believe). You can double check on dublinbus.ie website. You do have about a mile hike from the village to the hotel which is not bad unless you'll have substantial luggage. You can probably call the hotel to pick you up with their car. Alternatively, to give you a ballpark, the taxi from Dublin (FS hotel) cost me about 30 euros. I also highly recommend a day tour of the beautiful west coast of Ireland if you have time.
@ halfRoss -- Hmmm, we didn't have a balcony. Were you on the ground floor? I loved the trails as well!
@ halfRoss -- To add to that, the hotel will gladly pick up for free in town if you call them, so I guess it should be pretty accessible by bus then.
Lucky- Did you happen to get a peak at a standard suite? I have some vouchers for a suite at a Ritz and am considering using it there.
Hello Ben. I was on the 6th floor (room 643). Supposed to be a Deluxe King room but it looks very similar to you're room (???). Maybe they made a mistake. Is that even possible? I can email some pics if you'd like, though they're probably not as good as the ones you took. 🙂
Thanks for this great report, Luck! I would have been tempted to scream at your waiter, "I don't care who you served, you donkey! Just get us our tea!"
I'm at the Ritz Carlton Singapore right now and have free WiFi. I'm pretty sure the WiFi was there in 2012...
Hi Ben, I will be staying at the Powerscourt hotel soon. Your review is very helpful! Was the fitness center and pool included in the price of the room? Or did you have to pay a fee? If so, how much?
@ Bethany -- When I stayed at the Powerscourt it was a Ritz Carlton, and I don't believe I paid any additional fees. The hotel has changed management, as I understand it, so not sure what the current situation is, unfortunately.
