I may be interested in this card. I am relocating soon from Northampton, MA to Kelowna, BC (US citizen and Canada Permanent Resident). I have no credit history in Canada, but I'm hoping that AMEX will issue a card since I have an AMEX card in the US.

I wish I could merge the membership rewards points from my Canadian card with membership rewards points with my American Amex, which has more transfer partners (including Aeroplan), but I'm fairly certain I can't.

@Jl keep your USA Amex open. You'll need to have a USA address and keep a bank account stateside. Once annually, you can transfer Membership rewards from your Canada account to your USA account, at the prevailing USA/Canada exchange rate.

You don't know it yet, but having a SSN and a SIN, plus addresses and profiles in both countries, is going to be very rewarading. There's lots online about this. Welcome!

One little publicized perks of AMEX is a global recognition. If you have history with AMEX, you can transfer it worldwide.

A long term good standing with AMEX will get you through having no credit history, but other local requirements are still there. So not really a guarantee you will be approved.

Ugh these cards are worthless. The points earned by these credits card should be real MR rewards like the Platinum card. There's just no reason to spend that much on the card for so few benefits. Might as well get a real credit card from a bank for that return.
