Ah, the day had finally arrived, starting with my alarm going off at 4:30AM. So you want to be an ATC Specialist?

One nice thing you have working for you is age. The FAA won't hire anyone after their 31st birthday, since the mandatory retirement age in the US for ATCS is 56.

You should look into the Air Traffic - Collegiate Training Initiative schools ( http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/ato/service_units/acquisition/aja51/cti/AT-CTI_Schools.cfm). Another benefit of living in your current state is that there are plenty of programs available in-state.

Pros: Great pay, early "retirement", government pension
Cons: Strange hours, high stress

Looking forward to reading the rest of your posts. Remember that your dad will be expecting payback 10-20 years from now. 🙂 I flew in J a lot when I was in college and grad school, courtesy of my parents. Since then, I've been using my miles on my parents to fly them in J.

Looks like you got a smart-ass immigration officer who was not very smart to begin with. Canadians, eh?

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I'm flying for the first time on Monday! I am super nervous, but your article certainly releaved some of my tension!
