I wish I new this sooner. I flew from Tampa to New York JFK in November 2016 and had a connecting flight on Emirates. I initially had a 6 hour layover at JFK but then there was a delay of 5 hours. By the time I got to Terminal 4 and passed security, I had 5 minutes to spare till the door closed. And that was the second time in a row I nearly missed a connection on Jetblue within 5 months (the first time had a similar delay). If I new this I would have had alot ot airline credit on Jetblue.
Not to be overly critical, but the name of the article suggests that it's a sort of universal guide for requesting refunds, when in fact it's only about AA plus a few words about other US Airlines. Nothing about European, Asian or other airlines that this blog covers quite often.
So I was a bit disappointed.
I’m on one of the Etihad flights that got cancelled to JFK in December (I was notified via email yesterday). So, instead of the anticipated 1 hour layover, it’s now 11 hours. The unforeseen additional time is, to say the least, frustrating (especially at their redemption rate in biz from HKT-AUH-JFK). Am I entitled to any type of compensation for this inconvenience? Thanks!
@James the US has no specific rules regarding compensation for delayed travel. Where a flight is cancelled, you are entitled to either a full refund or travel on an alternate flight between your origin and destination. It sounds like you were rebooked on a flight that now has an unpleasantly long layover. You can ask the airline politely for compensation, but they have no legal requirement to provide it. Essentially your options are to accept the alternate flights or demand a refund.
I had a friend traveling from new haven to baltimore last weekend, who's flight was cancelled and got rebooked on a connection through CLT. Fortunately he had no trouble getting AA to refund his flight, and he just took amtrak.

And quick update - my refund only took two days to process this time. It helped that the gate agent notated the record locator in advance.
My flight from cvg to ewr was delayed enough that I could not make my ewr-bom flight connection. I rebooked to next day because Upon calling they denied my request to cancel because it is non refundable ticket. My trip to India was for 9 days which got cut down to 8 and it was not working for me. What options do I have in this situation?
