I love it. Once the Australian government allows Australians and permanent residents to leave Australia again, Hawaiian Airlines will certainly be on my list as an option because of this policy change. Previously I always booked award tickets for those itineraries that had a chance of me cancelling. This is a game changer for Australian-USA itineraries that may need to be cancelled for reasons other than Covid-19
the problem with this is Hawaiian Airlines does not put the value of your ticket into a dollar denominated account, they require the value to be applied in full for a future ticket. if the fare is less for the new ticket, you lose the difference. the passive/aggressive agents in the Philippines make changes very difficult. always, always, always ask for a supervisor or specifically a supervisor in hawaii. good in the sky, and on the ground.
@Ben Do you think we have any chance of the big three following suit? I travel much more internationally because of family and for pleasure as well so the domestic change fee waiver is nice but not applicable to people like me.

Ha! After dealing with their outrageous change fees last year, where it was cheaper to just not use the old ticket and buy new from Southwest, we decided to never use Hawaiian Air again. I guess it took a global pandemic for them to see the light albeit partially. Still love SWA better!!!
