Are the onboard service and lounge offering good with Egyptair? Never tried this airline but curious about other experiences.

Meanwhile, Egyptair is one of the few ways to get in/out/through SE Asia on United points now that United has gutted their MileagePlus program.

Maybe I couldn't find it, but is the Washington route is going to be operated by a 787?

Egyptair is great in the air (minus booze). Unitl now their biggest issue was no flat beds. Now thats solved.

I wouldnt hesitate taking them over United or especially the garbage that is Air Canada if dont mind flying dry (or BYO)

This is great news, in my opinion. I loved our time in Cairo and anything that makes it easier to get back to Egypt is excellent. Being a teetotaler it doesn't even matter to me that MS is dry. Thanks for the heads up, Lucky.

"I suspect this is very much a “capital to capital” route that’s being flown for political and prestige reasons, regardless of profit."

What miserable flight times! Leaving DC at noon and arriving in Cairo before 5:00 am? I can understand the Cairo to DC flight, they can't really push it back much later, so it is what it is, but they could have the DC flight leave a few hours later so business people can work half a day before heading to the airport, and then it arrives in Cairo at a reasonable time.

@RCB, I mostly agree, but that Saturday noon flight is workable if you want to do a ten day trip, returning on a Tuesday.
