Out of curiosity: Do you ever get hassled taking pix or videos during takeoff/landing (below 10K or 18K altitude)? That is, "when all devices with an On/Off switch are to be in the Off position". (I don't believe the rule is supported by technical evidence, but it is the typically-announced rule.)
@ jmd001 -- Nope, never. I only do it on non-US airlines and they never seem to care.
For those of you wondering what the difference is:
Light Turbulence: Turbulence that momentarily causes slight, erratic changes in altitude and/or attitude (pitch, roll, yaw).
Light Chop: Turbulence that causes slight, rapid and somewhat rhythmic bumpiness without appreciable changes in altitude or attitude.
I'm really enjoying reading the travel journal! Very cool! You may not have had to go to the American counter to recheck your bags though (and pay the possible baggage free for non-elites).
On my last trip from BNE-LAX-SYR, I didn't have to recheck my bags in Los Angeles. Qantas arranged to check it all the way home to New York, even though the American leg was on Delta.
I still had to pick up the bag for Customs, but on the way into the airport, I just passed it off to the staff at a Travelator, no problem.
This really helped me make the day's layover in Venice Beach all the more enjoyable unencumbered by luggage, too!
