Asia on a Whim: SFO-HKG on Cathay Pacific with a visit to the BA F lounge

We didn't even know there WAS a first class lounge(room) at Terraces, as we weren't directed there either. Our flight(same as yours) didn't board through the lounge, but it was just as well because when we walked up to the gate, an agent looked at our BPs and ushered us onto the aircraft ahead of everyone else.

I also think we may have had the same flight attendants as you.

Tell me, was the colleague that setup the table extender, from the business/coach cabin?

No limes? I hate to pick, but thats pretty pathetic for an airline the quality of CX.
Also, even the dullest person in the world is funnier than an episode of the Big Bang Theory

Odd. Emirates didn't have lime on my flight from DXB>BLR either.

How could you drink diet coke when Krug is offered!!! And all those great french and californian wines. Just sacrilege!! You and your brother need to stop eating so much and start enjoying the wine lists on these travel exploits of yours...

Ice cream on YYZ-HKG about 10 days back was perfect. We'll give it another spin tomorrow HKG-LHR. 🙂

Another wonderful chapter in this dream journey and I am enjoying each one enormously. Will admit that it's a few years since my last First class flight and reading your report is making me so nostalgic for the "good old days". Great report Lucky. I'm surprised by the quality of food compared to what I have read in other reports. I had the impression that the food in C is nothing special, so I'm wondering if CX distinguishes F this way or if they've stepped up their offerings. I've got a RT booked in a few months going the JFK-YVR-HKG route so now have to decide whether to switch it from C to F after reading your report.

How come you didn't have to go through the scanner?

You get a choice. Scanner or hand patdown.

Great report, thanks! I've never flown CX, so now it's on my list. I've done UA ORD- and SFO-HKG many times, always trying for 1A or 1K for that great view.

Just one comment. I'm as calm a flyer as can be. But I realize that the most "dangerous" part of a flight is take-off, and while an incident is very, very unlikely, I want to be prepared. So while I love to be comfy when in a premium cabin, I do three things:
(1) Keep my shoes on until after the double-chime on climb-out
(2) Don't change into my PJs or sweatsuit until after the seat belt sign is turned off
(3) Keep my passport in my pocket (i.e. not in my carry-on) until it's time to change.

Having something go wrong is highly unlikely, but if it did, I'd want to have my "outdoors" clothes and shoes on, and ID in something that I wasn't required to leave behind. And of course I reconfigure everything from comfy-mode to landing-mode about 30 minutes as initial decent begins.

Am I being too cautious? That's just my humble process - which I'll be following tomorrow BKK-NRT-SFO-BOS in NF on UA!

@ Ripper3785 -- Seems like they consistently do a bad job at the Terraces lounge at SFO then. The two first class flight attendants actually added the table extension.

@ Simon Chen -- Trust me, my brother certainly "maximized" the alcohol selection. He had at least a bottle of Krug and also a bottle of red. I was amazed he walked off the plane without any sort of hangover. 😀

@ cp -- I'll ask my brother to comment on that since he was the one drinking, but he really seemed to enjoy the red he was drinking.

@ bschaff1 -- First class is DEFINITELY worth the premium. Business class is good, but the seats and food in first class are way, way better. If it's available, definitely go for it.

@ Todd -- I actually do something similar. I always keep my shoes on and my phone in my pocket during takeoff and landing. Don't care so much about passport, and frankly I feel PJs are just as good should something happen since they're easy to move around in. Enjoy your flight tomorrow!

Curious what is your honest answer for not to be in the full body check in SFO security ? LOL.

Lucky, which lounge do you like more? The KLM Crown lounge at YYZ, or the BA F lounge at SFO?

IS the British Airways lounge at IAD better than the one at SFO?
