Around the World in a Week, Part Fifteen: Lufthansa First Class Terminal and FRA-SEA on Lufthansa in First Class
After arriving at the airport train station I made the trek through the terminal and to the outside roadway towards the Lufthansa First Class Terminal. The First Class Terminal is maybe a ten minute walk from the train station, so it is a bit of a hike, but still worthwhile. The real value in the…

A question comes up for an avid reader of your tripreports:
Hast Du nicht auch einen deutschen Pass?
I thought one has to enter/leave Germany with his German passport if one is German.
@DTS. Wenn man fliegt nach Amerika, dann muβ der Reisepaβ der USA präsentiert worden. Es ist egal, ob jemand beide Amerikaner und Deutscher wäre, es ist was die USA fordert.
@Lucky, dieser Bericht ist ausgezeichnet.
How did you enter the FCT through the main door? Did you navigate the sprial staircase with your rollaboard?
Nice report.
Coq au vin. Google it, please! It's "white" chicken cooked in red wine - so it turns "dark". Not a dark meat chicken. If you tell a French coq au vin looks like KFC he'll probably pass out.
Chitownflyer, google translate is terrible. That ain't no German sentence - I had a hard time figuring out what you mean...
Coq au vin is literally "chicken with wine" don't you guys get French in the States???
@Ralph - Please don't take Lucky for an example of what many of us are like in the States. Lucky takes no time to actually sample any culture or experience anything authentic, which makes him truly sound like an uncultured idiot most of the time. I apologize for this embarrassment.
And we wonder why people have no respect for Americans.
While not 100% positive, I am quite certain that I see a drumstick bone protruding from one of the pieces of chicken on Lucky's plate.
Great report Lucky. Funny that you prefer to eat on the plane rather than on the ground. I find the food on the ground at the FCL in both FRA and MUC to be much better than anything in the air, so the few times I have travelled on LH F I have eaten prior to boarding.
Based on your most recent trip report, it seems that you prefer the FCT to the B Pier FCL due to the ease of security, immigration and transport to the aircraft, nothing else. I find that very interesting. It makes sense then that the FCT is only available when departing FRA in F and not when arriving or transitting through F and in C onwards.
Lucky,
Taking into account the ground services at home base and the in-air product, do you prefer first on LH or LX? I'd love to to try LH for the First Class Terminal, but I'm not too enamored of the F seats, especially the 2-2 configuration on the 747. (I've never flown either airline in F).
We flew on 404 last week FRA/JFK in Y. Shhh. Don't tell anyone.
It was cloudy the entire trip. It's my biggest pet peeve!! In case you're interested, they served pasta. My wife said it was more like mac and cheese. SQ beats LH in the Y food department.
@Tom, meine Schreibung ist die Deutschgrammatik. Google Translate hat den groβen Fehler gemacht. Ich wünsche dir gute Reisen.
Love the pretentious assholes who try to elevate themselves by attempting to speak other languages on this site.
@Dan - Uh, he's really uncultured. Not knowing a basic French dish . . . .
Hey Lucky - you know you can get these dishes in these things called "restaurants," right?
Lucky,
Great report, no offence taken you did not know Coq au Vin (and were not all to enthousiastic about it)
What is your problem dude? You must be of French origin, the arrogance of connecting "being cultured" to a dish as coq au vin, it is almost hilarious! You are the kind of people in the States who give the USA a bad name.
Furthermore, going to this blog and reading this post is, as far as I know, entirely voluntarily, hence, if you do not like it, please stay away instead of and being a pompous ass, insulting the writer who in my opinion has done an excellent job.
@Robb - s my d you internet troll. I would love to smash your face into your keyboard so you stop writing shit because I'm sick of reading it. If you don't like the blog, don't read it, because all you do is give Lucky's blog more hits and higher popularity. And please, excuse my French, but fuck you.
Whoa, some hostility out there today.
Lucky - Thanks for the great description of LH FC ground service. I'd always heard that they drove you to the plane in a luxury auto, but never got the full details until now.
So the restaurant and the lounge at the FC terminal, is the food/drink complimentary?
Thanks again for the great trip report.
Uniter - All complimentary! Drink is fabulous if you like alcohol. I had some Grey Goose and Blue Label while I was there. Loved it =)
Great TR mate! If you weren't sure what the dish was...well...you weren't sure, not everyone in the world is a pompous gourmand after all eh? Keep up the good work!
What another great installment of your trip report! I can't wait to fly Lufthansa!
Great Report...I have to agree on the food...a little too adventurous, but that is what the lounge is for!
Have been lucky enough to use the F lounge 5 or 6 times and will again with my upcoming trip. We generally make good use of the lounge spending 3 or 4 hours there taking in the bath and shower facilities, the restaurant and generally we are able to polish off a couple of bottles of vintage champers...
To each his own. Did the roses ever come?
"Lufthansa has, by far, the best smelling hot towels."
My new favorite trip report sentence!
Level of detail is excellent.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
I flew LH in F a few weeks ago BOS-ZRH. The signature rose was firmly in place!
@Ralph - Please use the word "literally" properly: "coq au vin" is literally "rooster with wine", not "chicken with wine" (chicken is "poulet")
@Tom - While true that most US restaurants will serve white meat chicken as "coq au vin", as I just mentioned the original meaning is "rooster", and braising is a great way to prepare tougher parts of the birds. I've been served dark meat as "coq au vin" several times, There is not a single set recipe for the dish, the seasonings and wine used can vary.
@Robb - Many - most - Americans wouldn't know that "coq au vin" was a common French dish, because French cuisine is well down the popularity list in the US. I eat out frequently, both in Manhattan and while traveling, and haven't eaten at a French restaurant in years. I lived in Tampa, where Lucky lives, for eight years and can't think of a single French restaurant there, but can name several excellent Spanish, Cuban, Italian, and even Thai places.
Also, "cultured" doesn't equal "French", or vice-versa.
Lucky, I've enjoyed the whole trip report series!
@George - Wow... that's pretty amazing that they'd have a complimentary restaurant with top shelf liquor at FRA FC terminal!
But it begs the question ... Lucky - why didn't you eat a free meal and take a picture for us? Very disappointing ... 😉
If your favourite part about the First Class Terminal experience is the car ride, then why do you sit in the rear? And why does the car have a Stuttgart number plate?
LUCKY,
what kind of amenity bag they gave you this time, was it nice?
JOSH
I reckon because the brand Porsche has its headquarter in Stuttgart. Probably some kind of deal to get the cars a little bit cheaper or to keep the brands reputation at the top.
Regards
I thought this was a great report. I am going to be flying out of the FCT in early September and am looking forward to it! I'll probably take a cab though from downtown to enjoy the full experience.
At those bashing Lucky, give it up. Not everyone knows every food dish out there!
Where is the infamous Rimowa amenity kit ?
LH had already changed that kit ?
Compared to Swiss , this first class seems outdated.
I am surprised the windows CE ife did not crash on board your flight
I will say though the catering and amenities are very much first class
Did you use the amazing bathrooms at the FCT? Did you get your very own rubber ducky? 🙂 The bathrooms are one of the most striking features, although as others have pointed out, the top shelf liquor is worth a shot (pun intended 🙂
Regarding the food, I think you're missing out a little bit on many levels... Yes, the FCT has a full service restaurant, and it's actually an awesome feature if you want to maximize your sleeping time onboard. Also, as you did point out, food will always taste better on the ground, so if you're looking for a "gourmet" experience that's a good place to start. Sorry you didn't give the coq-au-vin a chance and dismissed it as KFC food... not to be judgmental like others but I found it rather sad to see your plate of finger food and sandwiches... that's KFC compared to the main entree 🙂 You may want to use your amazing trips as a chance to discover world cultures and foods. I'm an airline geek myself, so I can relate to a lot of what you say, but there's also a big world out there, outside the airplane...
