In 2018, Qatar Airways bought a 49% stake in Air Italy, which was formerly known as Meridiana. The airline currently operates A330s on long haul flights, and hasn't quite grown the way Qatar Airways had planned (initially the plan was for the airline to get 30 787s from Qatar Airways, but that's not happening anymore).…

West coast to Milan service is a great way to get to the heart of Italy. Let's hope the schedule stays.

Surprised you didn't mention the opportunity to redeem Iberia Avios for Air Italy flights, especially since you can transfer them from BA. Only 62,500 miles for JFK, MIA, and YYZ and 75,000 for SFO and LAX. Looks like you have to call in to book though since availability I found through BA didn't show up on IB's website

@Weymar M Osborne In theory you should be able to book that, but Iberia's system doesn't allow one way redemptions on non-IAG partners. It's a shame as that would be a much better deal.

The only thing that I wish that it will happen is that Air Italy will be a full partner of Alaska Mileage Plan. I flew Aer Lingus last week because I could earn both actual and elite-qualifying miles for Alaska Airlines. I am holding off on any plan on flying Air Italy for now, and hopefully AS will make the right decision. It will be nice to get back a few European airlines' partners, after losing Air France/KLM.

NOOO!!. This airline will bankrupt AA UL and DL. Air Italy is an illegally funded airline. That totally undercuts prices and floods markets with massive daily flight numbers to drive out local airlines. They must be stopped.

Booked for r/t from SFO in mid-April and fingers crossed no major scheduled changes or airline turmoil. Was a perfect fit for a direct flight from the Bay Area to Italy. Was thrilled to book during one of their (apparently frequent) 25% off sales, so got a nice fare especially direct. At the same time the consistent discounts don't fill me with a ton of confidence. Definitely purchased travel insurance (which I don't normally do) which helps with the payment but not the potential inconveniences.
