Now the dark side: e-upgrades will require a Premium Economy booking to upgrade to Business. New mileage redemption levels for PY which will coincide with a devaluation when introduced.
AC actually originally offered PE on NA flights when these were launched on the HD configured 777. One received the same meal voucher as a Latitude (Y) booked ticket and the improved seat. It was then removed. Glad to see they're bringing this option back as in some cases flights in NA are as long as East Coast to Europe.
At some point I hope AC will either upgrades their domestic Business Class hard product or just brings it inline with PE and charge as such.
Also I'd really like to see greater deployment of extra legroom economy seats. I think Virgin Australia really does that well with their 777 product. Early boarding for bin space, guaranteed meal choice and so on makes a difference for sure in long haul.
Cool, I had three of us booked in those seats on July 1 and July 8. Looking forward to trying the new service. It's not the cheapest way to fly by any means but I have always liked Air Canada's a la carte approach to pricing.
For anyone affected by this, AC seems to be re-booking into O class (Flexible Premium Economy). In my case that means another 25% on the on the aeroplan miles and Altitude Qualifying Miles. minor point but also a nice little bonus.
This is annoying. Soon economy will also have priority boarding , free alcohol, amenity kits, and everyone goes home with a participation trophy. The days of exclusivity are long gone...
Wait. So how is giving a customer in business-class, who is likely traveling on an expensive ticket, the same meal as a customer in premium-economy a good thing?
Just upgraded a flight on a 773 from YVR-YYZ that's flying red eye. I was in economy ans paid $113CAD all in to get a premium Econ seat. Even more interesting, I'm flying Jun 26 and the description of the uograde described everything same as this!
While yes you get the same booze and food as biz maybe, you still don't get lie flat which is huge on a cross country red eye. Daytime, meh, but overnight it's definitely not the same.
