Alaska Mileage Plan is one of my favorite frequent flyer programs, given their unique array of airline partners, combined with their generous mileage earning rates.
At the moment Alaska has quite a few promotions for flying. They’re offering double miles on select transcon routes, as well as double miles on new Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines flights from Seattle. Now the airline has launched yet another promotion for partner travel.
You can earn double Alaska Mileage Plan miles for eligible travel on Qantas. The promotion is valid when you register and book your flights between April 1 and April 30, 2019, and travel between May 1 and December 6, 2019.
The promotion is valid for travel between the following city pairs:
- Los Angeles (LAX) and Brisbane (BNE), Melbourne (MEL), Sydney (SYD)
- San Francisco (SFO) and Melbourne (MEL), Sydney (SYD)
- New York (JFK) and Brisbane (BNE), Melbourne (MEL), Sydney (SYD)
- Dallas (DFW) and Sydney (SYD)
As you can see, this includes all of Qantas’ mainland US routes. It’s fine if you’re traveling beyond those destinations, but only the above routes will be eligible to earn double miles.
In order to be eligible, your flight needs to be operated by Qantas and marketed by either Qantas or Alaska. All paid fare classes qualify. Bonus miles should post to your account within 4-6 weeks of the eligible flight.
For context, here are the usual Mileage Plan earning rates on Qantas:
So with this promotion you’d be earning anywhere from a total of 200% miles to 450% miles (the bonus miles are based on the base miles earned).
That doesn’t include elite bonuses, as Alaska elite members earn additional bonuses — MVP members get a 50% bonus, MVP Gold members get a 100% bonus, and MVP Gold 75K members get a 125% bonus.
If you’re looking to book a paid ticket on Qantas, this can represent an excellent deal. You’re looking at earning a minimum of 200% redeemable miles for your transpacific flight, though depending on your status and fare class, could be earning up to 575% miles.
Fortunately there’s a huge travel window with this promotion, though you do have to book and register in April to be eligible.
Also keep in mind that you can potentially stack this with the Amex Offers deal for a discount on a Qantas flight originating in the US.
Anyone plan to take advantage of this promo to earn double Alaska miles on Qantas?
