Fiji Airways is dropping its newest and longest route to the United States, under two years after launching the service.
In this post:
Fiji Airways ends DFW flights as of September 2026
In December 2024, we saw Fiji Airways launch nonstop flights between Nadi (NAN) and Dallas (DFW). The 6,625-mile flight has been the longest sector in the carrier’s network, and it was clearly motivated by Fiji Airways joining the oneworld alliance, plus the carrier’s closer partnership with American (including Fiji Airways using American AAdvantage as its loyalty program).
The airline has now revealed that this route will be cut as of September 7, 2026. In the announcement about this change, the airline cites high fuel costs and changing demand patterns when explaining these updates. Officially the route is “suspended,” but I’d be willing to bet it doesn’t make a comeback.
The airline stated that with this route being cut, it can instead focus on routes with “the strongest and most sustainable demand.” The airline intends to upgrade select Vancouver (YVR) flights from the A330 to the A350, and will also increase frequencies to Hong Kong (HKG).
Fiji Airways will continue to operate 11x weekly flights to the United States, between service to Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO). Customers impacted by the latest route cut will be rerouted onto those existing services.

I’m not surprised to see Fiji Airways’ DFW route being cut
I can totally understand why Fiji Airways thought this route might make sense, in terms of connectivity. Also keep in mind that one of the main objectives of Fiji Airways is to boost tourism to Fiji, and the country has been trying to increase inbound tourism from the United States.
Fiji Airways’ Dallas route is around 1,000 miles longer than its other West Coast flights, and I suspect the airline just wasn’t able to get a premium for the longer flight time. That’s often the case for longer flights, where the incremental length and operating costs just aren’t covered by increased fares.
In theory, the value of flying to a hub like Dallas is that it provides one-stop service to so many little markets that might not have the same service from places like Los Angeles or San Francisco, just in terms of geography.
But just realistically speaking, traveling to Fiji as an American is still really niche, and I have to imagine that a vast majority of travelers are from major cities, which are equally connected to Dallas and Los Angeles. So yeah, this isn’t surprising to me at all, but I guess it was worth a try.

Bottom line
As of September 2026, Fiji Airways will be cutting its nonstop service between Nadi and Dallas, which was only launched in late 2024. The airline is citing higher fuel costs and evolving travel demand, saying it wants to focus on markets with the strongest and most sustainable demand. While this is technically a suspension, I wouldn’t expect to see this route return.
What do you make of Fiji Airways cutting DFW flights?
No surprise at all, sadly, when you look at the load factors. always empty.
Load factor? That's a Tim-Dunn-favorite!
But, to the rest of us, it's.. NAN.. of our business.
I like this pun!
Spouse and I flew this DFW - NAN flight on Fiji air in February 2025. This was shortly after the route was initiated. We flew business and used AA miles. Access to the DFW Flagship lounge was approved just a week or so before our flight and was very much enjoyed.

The aircraft was a bit dated but acceptable. The service was very attentive and friendly. Food was good but not outstanding. All in all a great use of AA miles. We were not expecting an SQ-style experience and so were not disappointed.
We stayed at the Intercontinental for ten days and loved it. The property was good to very good overall. An arguably world-class beach was right on the property and adjacent to the very nice and well-maintained hotel swimming pool.
The staff at the Intercontinental was very friendly and attentive. The food was good and plentiful. Yes, everyone said the "Bula" greeting constantly. But it was so obviously sincerely welcoming that it never struck us as annoying.
There were many Australians there. We talked to quite a few who were the typically friendly folks that we have met around the world. I asked several why fly from Sydney, for example, to Fiji instead of the Gold Coast or northern Queensland. There are thousands of miles of gorgeous beaches in Oz. The usual answer was "It's a great value for the money here in Fiji".
We didn't go off the Intercontinental property much so can't comment about the rest of Fiji except to say that the drive from NAN to the resort was through definitely "second world" areas. The Fiji people were great but do not expect too much regarding infrastructure.
We flew onward from Fiji to Oz. Fiji makes a great intermediate stop enroute to Australia or New Zealand if you have enough time.
Think NAN is a very unique airport. As an avgeek, I just love being able to see my aircraft before boarding or after exiting without any glass barrier in between.
And as a destination, I would love going back to Fiji again.
But Fiji Airways is a massive letdown. The service is mediocre and the soft product is pretty average.
As an American who traveled to Fiji this past winter for 2 weeks, I'd have to say I was "underwhelmed". Yes, some of the nature is beautiful, but nothing that stands out as compared to visiting Bahamas, Guam, Hawaii or other tropical Isle. Actually, the beaches themselves were worse and rocky. Service at hotels are okay, but I often felt they go way overboard with their approach and also the "Bula" a hundred times a...

Yes, some of the nature is beautiful, but nothing that stands out as compared to visiting Bahamas, Guam, Hawaii or other tropical Isle. Actually, the beaches themselves were worse and rocky. Service at hotels are okay, but I often felt they go way overboard with their approach and also the "Bula" a hundred times a day gets a bit tiring. Plus always asking for tips is a big turn off. I also got into a heated argument with a total ass of a Fiji Airways employee at the airport it was by far the worst airline experiences I have ever had with a ground crew. Once on the airline itself, the plane itself felt dated and service was so so. So, not surprised if they are struggling with visitors. I had just flown from Japan which was an amazing experience as always and Fiji was a huge downgrade from that experience. Have no desire to ever visit Fiji again.
The guy thinks Guam has more to offer than Fiji.
Guess he stayed his entire stay in a crappy downtown NADI airport motel....
@Minos
Not quite. The "guy" flew business class each way and stayed at Raiwasa on Taveuni Island, Intercontinental Fiji, and Hilton Nadi. Didn't say Guam had "more" to offer, just said Fiji was basically just another tropical isle with beaches (worse beaches actually, more rocky once you get in) , palm trees, mountains and hills etc Plus with worse service overall (sometimes kind of "weird" service) . If you feel differently, to each his own.
JFK to DFW to FRA. SFO to DFW to NRT. Thank you Mr. Znotins.
What does that have to do with anything?
Fiji is growing as a transit hub for Australians travelling to North America, and Australian tourism to the US is down.
Are they traveling to Dallas though? If they are connectin on AA from DFW then there are far superior one-stop options from Australia
It was an odd route. LAX/SFO makes sense. Their a350 is nice. NAN needs work; lounge there is fine; reliability, timeliness is an issue.
ben did you see royal jordanian is going daily at DFW? a tale of two airlines https://x.com/ishriona/status/2047867234089832767?s=61
