Save On Amazon Purchases With Amex Offers (Targeted)

10

The Amex Offers program often has promotions that can save you money or earn you bonus points for purchases with all kinds of retailers. Typically I only cover the deals for travel brands, since that’s the main topic of this blog. However, I figure that for many people, a discount with Amazon is basically good as cash, so I think this is worth covering as well…

Spend $150+ with Amazon, earn 1,200 bonus points

With a new targeted Amex Offers deal, you can earn 1,200 bonus Amex Membership Rewards points if you spend $150 or more with Amazon. You can take advantage of this promotion up to three times, for a total of up to 3,600 bonus points. This is valid for purchases through December 31, 2024.

It’s possible there’s also a version offering a statement credit rather than bonus points, though I usually consider the points versions of Amex Offers deals to represent the best deal.

Earn up to 3,600 bonus points with Amazon

The promotion is only valid for purchases made through Amazon’s US website or mobile app, using the enrolled card. The offer excludes corporate gift cards and custom designed gift card purchases. It also excludes Prime memberships and auto-renew subscription services, and isn’t valid for Amazon Go, Amazon Local, Amazon Mechanical Turk, Amazon Web Services, Amazon Home & Business Services, Amazon Currency Converter, Home Services, Prime Photos, Amazon Inspire, Amazon Video Direct, Amazon business, Amazon Global, or Amazon Drive.

This Amazon promotion is a no-brainer

Personally I value Amex Membership Rewards points at 1.7 cents each, meaning I value 1,200 points at $20.40. In other words, this promotion offers an incremental $20.40 return on $150 of spending (up to three times), which is the equivalent of a 13.6% return. That’s before factoring in the value of any other credit card rewards you’d earn.

Also keep in mind that it’s often possible to save on Amazon purchases by redeeming just a single Amex point, so check to see if you’re eligible for that.

Given that many of us do quite a bit of shopping through Amazon, I’d consider this level of a return on spending to be pretty noteworthy.

Bottom line

The Amex Offers program has a targeted promotion, offering 1,200 bonus points when spending $150 or more with Amazon. Given that Amazon is one of the largest retailers in the world, I know many will probably want to take advantage of this… I know I will.

Were you targeted for this Amex Offers deal, and if so, do you plan on taking advantage of it?

I got Spend $50, Get 500 MR points/up to 3 times. I certainly will be taking advantage of this. The fine print doesn’t say anything about Amazon Fresh. Are there any data points? Debating adding to Gold or Blue Biz Plus for maximum earning.

Mine was 4k points after $1,000 or more per purchase, up to 12k points

The deal terms say "...after spending $150 in one or more purchases..."

Does this mean multiple small orders qualify? Or does each order have to be $150+ to trigger the deal?

Corporate GCs means any GCs in general right?

Almost as good of a deal as buying amazon credit on pepper- which is often 12-16% off- and then you can use whatever credit card gives you the best return.

how does 'up to 3600 points' work? spend 150 3 times or 450 at once?

    1. Luis Guest

You would most likely have to do 3 separate transactions of $150 or more

    2. Richard Guest

It is the sum of a single or multiple orders. Each time your order(s) total $150, the 1200 points are earned. You do not have to spend $150 or $450 all at once to earn the bonus points.

What is a "corporate gift card"? If I buy 3x150$ in Amazon gift card balance, will the offer kick in?
