Fast growing luxury hotel group Rosewood has started accepting reservations for its newest resort in North America, and it’s in the same development as another very well regarded luxury property.
In this post:
Basics of the Rosewood Mandarina
The Rosewood Mandarina is now accepting reservations for stays as of April 1, 2025. This property is located near Puerto Vallarta (PVR), in the the Riviera Nayarit region, on the west coast of Mexico. Specifically, the resort makes up part of the Mandarina complex, where you’ll also find the One&Only Mandarina, regarded as one of Mexico’s best resorts.
The 140-key property will feature rooms, suites, and villas, with panoramic views across the mountains, beach, and ocean. As far as amenities go, guests will be able to choose from three restaurants and bars, including a specialty restaurant and sunset bar, as well as more informal options, like a pool grill and beach bar.
The resort will also boast three pools, a fitness center, and a full-service spa with 10 treatment rooms. While there aren’t many pictures of the property as of now, the design is described as drawing inspiration from the local, pre-historic Huichole and Cora cultures, combining modern luxury and comfort with the riches of its setting.
In the Puerto Vallarta region, many people may be familiar with Punta Mita, where you’ll find both a Four Seasons and St. Regis. Mandarina is similarly a “luxury compound.” The major difference is that the Mandarina area has more of a “jungle” vibe, in addition to the ocean and beach. So unlike at Punta Mita, most of the accommodations are built into a hill.
This will be Rosewood’s fourth property in Mexico, complementing the Rosewood Mayakoba, Rosewood San Miguel de Allende, and Las Ventanas al Paraiso. Furthermore, the Rosewood Mexico City is expected to open in 2026.
I find it interesting how the developers of Mandarina chose to brand the property’s two resorts as Rosewood and One&Only. Often developers try to branch out a bit to cast a wider net in terms of the consumer base they go after, while I’d consider Rosewood and One&Only to be pretty close competitors (and neither has a lucrative loyalty program, which is another differentiator between many hotel groups). I’d say One&Only has perhaps a bit more of a reputation for quality and being bespoke, but both are very well regarded.
Rosewood Mandarina rates & how to book
What are rates like at the Rosewood Mandarina? Luxury hotel pricing has of course increased considerably in recent years, particularly in Mexico.
Thanks to an opening offer, rates at the Rosewood Mandarina seem to start at just over $1,000 per night, which is supposedly a 30% discount over the standard cost. Part of the challenge with hotel rates in Mexico is the high taxes and fees — all rates are before the 15% service charge and 21% in taxes, so you’ll pay an extra 36% above the published rates.
Fortunately accommodations at the Rosewood Mandarina are very generously sized. The entry level flatland studio suite king has 827 square feet of interior space and 498 square feet of exterior space, with an infinity plunge pool and outdoor dining patio.
When it comes to looking up rates, I appreciate that Rosewood’s website has a rate calendar, allowing you to easily compare rates for months at a time.
You’re best off booking Rosewood properties through a Rosewood Elite travel advisor, as that’s typically going to be the best deal. Ford and his team are happy to help with these requests, and can be reached at [email protected].
This won’t cost you anything extra, and a Rosewood Elite agent will be able to add extra perks for your stay. What value can a Rosewood Elite travel advisor add?
- Daily breakfast for up to two people per bedroom
- Complimentary one-category room upgrade upon arrival (based on availability)
- A welcome amenity and note
- Additional property specific elite enhanced amenities, which vary by property; these may include a $100 credit per stay
A few further things to note:
- Rosewood Elite perks can be combined with whatever promotion Rosewood is offering on its website directly, including the opening offer
- Booking through Rosewood Elite is better than booking through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts, because upgrades are prioritized through Rosewood’s own proprietary program
Bottom line
The Rosewood Mandarina is expected to open as of April 2025, right next to the existing One&Only. Mandarina is near Puerto Vallarta, so it’s an easy getaway if you’re looking for pretty beach with a bit of a jungle vibe, along with the great food and service you’ll find at many top resorts in Mexico.
What do you make of the new Rosewood Mandarina?
It is amazing to me that all of Mexico has such high taxes and added to the service charges it Is over the top! We have stayed at a resort in Cabo and the service fees and taxes and other add on fees were closer to 40-45% of the total for the stay. They are taxing themselves out of tourism!
I really cannot get interested in this property
That guest room pic is at O&O Mandarina, not Rosewood! There are other photos/renderings of the Rosewood property, though.
