The Citi ThankYou program has just launched a couple of new transfer bonuses. While I’d consider the 25% bonus to Air France-KLM Flying Blue to be a great value, I’d consider this to be less exciting of a deal…

Citi offering 20% Wyndham transfer bonus

Between July 21 and August 17, 2024, the Citi ThankYou program in the United States is offering a 20% bonus on points transfers to Wyndham Rewards.

Citi ThankYou 20% transfer bonus to Wyndham Rewards

Ordinarily points transfer at a 1:1 ratio (in 1,000 point increments), while through this promotion you’d get 1,200 Wyndham Rewards points for every 1,000 Citi ThankYou points transferred.

This promotion is being offered on Citi’s end (in the United States), and is hard coded into the transfer ratio, meaning you should see the bonus at the time that you make the transfer. You can take advantage of this offer an unlimited number of times. Transfers from Citi to Wyndham Rewards are generally instant.

Wyndham Rewards was only added as a Citi ThankYou transfer partner in late 2021, and this is the first transfer bonus that I recall seeing.

There are several great cards earning Citi ThankYou points, including the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card (review), and it’s easy to combine points between the cards.

Should you transfer Citi points to Wyndham Rewards?

It’s rare that I give absolute advice, so this is as close as I’ll get to it — please don’t transfer your Citi ThankYou points to Wyndham Rewards, even with a 20% bonus.

Personally I value Wyndham Rewards points at 0.7 cents each, so even with a 20% bonus, you’re getting under a cent of value per ThankYou point, by my valuation. Furthermore, Wyndham Rewards often has promotions on buying points, which is an opportunity to acquire these points for under a cent each.

For context, Wyndham Rewards properties cost either 7,500, 15,000, or 30,000 points per night, and while there are some premium properties, they’re the exception rather than the norm. Therefore I just don’t see much value in taking advantage of this transfer opportunity, given the better uses of ThankYou points.

Just to add to the above point, Choice Privileges and Wyndham Rewards are both Citi ThankYou transfer partners, and I value the points currencies roughly equally. The difference is that transfers to Choice at a 1:2 ratio, and transfers to Wyndham are at a 1:1 ratio. I’d say Wyndham transfers could be worth it in some cases if the transfer ratio were 1:2 (or if there were a 100% transfer bonus), but otherwise, I’d give this a pass.

This Wyndham transfer bonus isn’t a good value

Bottom line

Between July 21 and August 17, 2024, the Citi ThankYou program is offering a 20% bonus on points transfers to Wyndham Rewards. For a vast majority of people, this isn’t even worth considering. I value Wyndham Rewards points at 0.7 cents each, so even with a 20% bonus, you’re getting very poor value.

Does anyone plan on taking advantage of this Citi transfer bonus to Wyndham Rewards?

I value Wyndham points over Marriott, Hilton and IHG points. It is the only hotel currency besides Hyatt that is worth a transfer. Every Wyndham redemption I have done are at least 2cpp. Lucky just doesn't know how to use Wyndham points.

Rare to see you this wrong. Take a sick day and read frequent miler on Vacasa. Someone has been staying at too many Belmond Bvlgaris

It’s easy to get over 1.0 cpp on Wyndham points through Vacasa, and not impossible to get over 2.0 cpp. This is bad advice for someone who values Vacasa at all, and I’m not sure why you wouldn’t unless you exclusively rent 2+ bedroom vacation rentals.

I agree with you up to a point. I use Wyndham points exclusively for Vacasa, and even though they’ve devalued a couple of times it’s still easy to get 1-1.5 cpp of value. OTOH, Wyndham regularly sells points under $0.01 (currently you can buy them for $0.096). So, if you needed, say, 100k points would you rather pay $960 or transfer 84,000 Thank You points? That’s a 1.1 cpp value for your Citi points, so...

This is great news! That vacation in the West Sacramento Motel-6 might just get upgraded to a La Quinta because of this. But then again, how will I be able to hang-out just outside the exterior door while sipping my 24 ouncer and gazing into the parking lot? I've got some decisions to make, folks.

I've checked, and the La Quinta on Jiboom Street in Sacramento also has exterior doors, and I might get a levee view room, too! This is awesome! I might have to go contrary to Lucky's advice.

I consistently get over 1cpp when redeeming Wyndham points for Vacasa stays, and all inclusive properties, but other than those small niches it’s hard to get outsized value from Wyndham points.
