About That Weird Miles & More Bundle&Go Email…

45

Several readers seem to have received the same email, so I figure it’s worth addressing in a post…

Did I stumble upon a small fortune of Miles & More miles?!

Today I received an email from “[email protected],” which is the email address generally used by points.com. The email has the subject line “Bundle&Go purchase receipt,” and the content of the email stated I had successfully been credited 420,000 miles to my Lufthansa Miles & More account.

At first I was super excited — woot, those miles are valuable, and can be used to confirm Lufthansa first class awards more than 15 days in advance!

This email looked promising at first

There was only one small problem — I didn’t have any transactions that would earn me Miles & More miles, and the Miles & More number listed wasn’t my actual Miles & More number. For that matter, based on Googling “Bundle&Go,” it doesn’t seem like that’s a thing yet? Maybe it’s something still in the design phase?

I then became curious. This didn’t seem like your typical phishing email, since there was no call to action, no suspicious link to click, no threat of my social security number being deactivated, no request to buy a gift card or go to Western Union, etc.. Everything about the email seemed legitimate, except it simply wasn’t accurate.

So, what’s going on here?

Long story short, it would appear that that these emails are related to some sort of other activity with points.com in recent weeks. So if you used points.com to buy or transfer points with IHG One Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy, Radisson Rewards, etc., you may have received this email.

For example, on October 19 I transferred 420,000 Radisson Rewards points to Radisson Rewards Americas, and those programs use points.com to facilitate this. The date matches, the number of points matches, and the loyalty program number listed is actually my Radisson Rewards Americas account number.

I don’t know what caused these emails to be sent out, but they’re obviously a glitch, and should match up with some other points.com activity you’ve had. I imagine a correction email will be sent out soon.

Update: Below you can find the follow-up email that has been sent out regarding this.

Earlier today, we mistakenly sent you an email that was intended as a test and included details from a prior transaction you made with Points.

We apologize for any confusion this may have caused and want to assure you that there were no charges made to your account and your information was not shared with anyone else.

No Lufthansa first class for me, sadly!

Bottom line

Unfortunately many of us haven’t just stumbled upon an accidental fortunate of Miles & More miles. Rather points.com seems to have accidentally sent out an incorrect Miles & More transaction confirmation, when really it reflects activity with another program.

Did you receive this strange email, and if so, does my theory hold?

Today I received an email from [email protected] (proper names) regarding a refund I requested on award ticket. Usually in the past they have refunded to method of payment credit card but this time they want bank info since their “system is down” does that seem legit? Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I got this - most likely due to purchasing some Virgin points recently. I don’t find the explanation in the email particularly plausible, it seems more likely sent in error, and related to the real previous transaction.

    1. Alan Guest

Their explanation is the same thing as your suggestion, just worded it a bit differently.

They were conducting an internal test using recent real transaction data and sent the test message in error.

  3. Simon Guest

Since quite some time, Miles&More has suspended any miles purchasing. I wonder if this policy is about to change. The design in the email looked quite professional (Bundle&Go In cooperation with Miles&More). Maybe this is something that Points.com plans to offer in the near future?

We are in the midst of claiming compensation from LH due to the Pilot strike in Sept. We are attempting to negotiate as the amount they offered in $ was not enough so I thought that this was possibly their way of adding to the offer? But I don't want M&M points!!

Thanks for posting this info because, YES, I did make a points.com purchase recently.
    Let's wait and see

This explanation matches my email and recent Marriott points purchase exactly. Thanks for the explanation, I don't think I would have made the connection without your pointer.

Yup, it looks like Points.com followed up. Rather quickly, too, IMHO.

Got it as well. Said my credit card would be charged and I went right to Google.
It's my Bonvoy acct for points I bought for an upcoming stay. It was 10 October though. Wonder why so late. I made sure the trip posted to my app weeks ago and it did.

  8. Simon Guest

Thanks for posting this. My email was for an Aeroplan purchase last month and I wasn't afraid of hacking, just worried Lufthansa had hoovered up my Aeroplan miles into without my say so.

  9. InceptionCat Gold

Got one too. It was a recent Hyatt points purchase.

  10. DSK Member

Yep. Number in the e-mail was my Hyatt number and date was the date I purchased Hyatt points and the number of points equaled the number of Hyatt points purchased. Out of curiosity, I did check my Miles & More account and found out Miles & More expired all of my miles so I was down to zero.

Thank you so much! This was really helpful!

I got this email too and thought that it was a scam but you are correct, it was actually linked to a transaction that I made with Alaska Airlines on the date in my confirmation. Thanks for this quick article.

  13. Sam Guest

Received Bundle&Go email about miles purchase. Spent sometime on email to see whether its leggit. Account number in the email doesn't match with my Miles & More, but matched with Flying Blue where I have purchased miles last month.

  14. Heather Guest

Thanks for the article, that explains the same email I got. I did purchase some Marriott-Bonvoy points a few weeks ago and got 2000 bonus points so it must relate to that.

  15. Michael Lissack Guest

I got 2 of these. I have contacted everyone at Points.com but only get radio silence. It is clearly a glitch but the lack of information from Points.com is rather disturbing.

I thought I was hacked, and a google search had this article. Thanks for the the prompt article.

I just got this same message today saying a purchase I didn't make to Bundle&Go on 10/17/22 will credit 375,000 miles to my Miles and More account. However the account number referenced is my Radisson Rewards Americas number. On 10/17/22 i did transfer 375,000 Radisson points from my Raddisson Rewards International account to my Radisson Awards Americas account. Weird

I’ll,receive an email juste like yours but don’t no why

  20. Thomas Guest

Got. the email as well. In my case the data comes from a transaction related to another FFP a few weeks ago.

  21. Barry Guest

I got one -- it was from a Hyatt points purchase

  22. Cliburn Guest

I got the email also.... Also did a Radisson transfer this year.... Am relieved as a couple of my accounts have been hacked recently and I have tried to make sure everything else is secure.

  23. Your Name Guest

Thanks for the write-up. I got the exact same Email. I bought Marriott Bonvoy points a few weeks ago to complete a stay using points. :)

  24. Tim Guest

Same here, bought IHG miles earlier this month and received the Miles and More about exactly that amount. Something is really messy with them.

  25. Richard Guest

Yes, same. I recently transferred and purchased Marriott Bonvoy Points, and then I get this spam email from Bundle&Go tied to Miles & More. I'm checking my Bonvoy cc and Member account to see I wasn't hacked with fraudulent purchased.

  26. Clem Diamond

I'm more intrigued by the fact that you have nearly half a million Radisson points when I can't even remember when or if I ever saw a Radisson review on this blog hah!

    1. Stuart Guest

I agree. I mean, who in the world outside of Minnesota or Northern Europe has that many Raddison points? Why?

    2. Brad C Guest

There have been a few Radisson reviews: Longyearbyen, Oslo, and Copenhagen.

  27. Krista Guest

I got the email too. I have a recent Amex to Marriott points transfer, but I don't have a points.com account and the number of points transferred don't match. I still think it's some crazy scam!

  28. RH Guest

In my case the email matches rail travel points purchased some time ago.

  29. Silvia Guest

It is true for me as well. I have made a conversion from Mariott Bonvoy points into miles (Flying Blue) in October. I will be waiting to see what happens.

  30. Christian Guest

I too got the strange email and it makes sense now that it’s related to a recent Radisson transfer.

  31. Jeanne Guest

Thanks for allaying my fears that phishing had occurred or that someone had hacked my account.

  32. Alice Guest

I didn't purchase anything recently but got the exact same email as you. Your purchase of Bundle&Go was successful. 3,450 Miles will be credited to your Miles & More account. Information about how to use the benefits in your bundle, and a summary of your transaction is below:

so odd that this happened. I will just ignore it.

  33. John Guest

I received that email this morning as well, but for some Alaska Air points I bought back on September 19th.

The transaction miles, date of purchase, and my account number were correct. But my email had more stuff afterwards, saying I can have benefits at Hotels and Cars by Points, Avis, and Priority Pass discounts. Each entity had a unclickable link.

Maybe Points is going to roll out special targeted promos you can click on...

  34. Vanellope Guest

    Your correct.
I got this mail 2 hrs ago,for my hilton to hilton 20,000 points transfer in sept 2022.
It said that 20,000 points will come to my miles and more account, but the account number in the mail are my hilton member number.

  35. ringbark Guest

Yes and yes. Matches a small Bonvoy purchase I made last week to keep my points alive.

  36. Brad C Guest

I knew something was off with the email listing a different number than my Miles and More number. Didn't realize until I saw this post that it was identical to my Wyndham points purchase last month. Good to know I wasn't hacked and it's just a glitch!

  37. Marco Guest

Thanks for reducing my fears of some suspicious activity. Like many that have echoed it had to with a recent purchase of hotel miles. It's bizzare nonetheless.

  38. Jamie Member

Yes. Your theory holds up. The number of points in the email I received matches a Radisson Rewards transfer I did and the number is my Radisson (not Americas) number.

Thanks for posting. Makes me feel better that it looks like an IT glitch and not a scam.

  39. R B Guest

same as NBT, purchased some Hyatt points in September. Received the email from Bundle & Go earlier today.

  40. NBT Guest

FWIW, the amount in my email matches the Hyatt Points I purchased over a month ago
