Tokyo Hotel Introduces Crying Rooms For Women

9

I love Japan. Partly because of how many ridiculous(ly awesome) hospitality concepts they have, from robot girlfriends to stuffed animal companions at coffeeshops.

A Tokyo hotel has just unveiled a pretty, erm, unique concept — crying rooms for women.

Japanese-Hotel

The Mitsui Garden Yotsuya Hotel already offers rooms designed exclusively for women, which have the following description:

FEATURES:
Trouser press, Humidifier,Dryer with negative ion, Free high speed internet,
Writing desk,LCD TV, Complimentary a bottle of mineral water. ○Information of Ladies floor. We can’t book reservation for men.

Ladies-Room

However, through August 31, 2015, The Mitsui Garden Yotsuya Hotel is taking the concept even further. Via The Daily Mail:

The Mitsui Garden Yotsuya hotel in the ward of Shinjuku said the rooms are designed to allow female guests to ‘cry heartily’ in comfort.

It’s part of an effort to help them to de-stress or overcome any emotional problems that may be plaguing them, the hotel said.

The crying rooms feature luxury tissues that female guests can use to ‘gently wipe away their tears’ and avoid ‘swollen eyes’ the following morning, makeup remover and a steam eye mask.

They can also choose from a selection of manga comic books or films that tend to make viewers cry, including Forrest Gump and the South Korean film A Moment to Remember.

Brilliant — put tissues, films, and comic books (those are supposed to make people cry?!) in a room and market it as a package.

The rate for a “Ladies Moderate Single” room with the crying package is 10,000 Yen, or ~$85USD+.

Too bad they don’t have an equivalent package for men!

I learned a trick to stop crying when you really don't want to (like when you are at La Guardia last weekend waiting for your flight and your boyfriend decides to dump you over the phone and there are lots of people sitting around you listening to your conversation) and it has worked every single time thus far. Put the back of your tongue up against the roof of your mouth and hold it there until you can pull yourself together..

There are so many Japan hotel packages at the domestic hotel chains. It gets kind of confusing with all the packages trying to book a hotel there nowadays.

I remember during the period where university students were looking for job offers hotels offered Long Distance Interview packages with "Guaranteed Early Wakeup Calls, Free Breakfast and A room with a desk and writing stationary", AKA everything that is offered for free anwyays.

When my wife is sad, she likes to listen to slow, depressing music so she can cry more. Women are nuts!

You should probably google "manga". Japanese "comic books" as they are poorly translated to in English are not your Marvel or Dark Horse comic books in the west. They basically cover every literary genre and there's manga that target pretty much every demographic. So yes, there's ones that have pretty tragic scenes in them that conceivably make readers tear up.
