Starbucks is offering a $10 bonus gift card when you purchase at least a $10 Starbucks electronic gift card using Visa Checkout. The promotion is valid through May 17, 2016, or for the first 325,000 people to take advantage of the offer — whichever comes first.

Each person is eligible for one $10 bonus, and you’ll see the $10 bonus reflected on your receipt (though not before that).

Even if you’ve never used Visa Checkout, this is super easy to do. I just signed up for a new Visa Checkout account, and the whole process took less than three minutes. That’s a steal for $10 of free spend at Starbucks.

To take advantage of this offer, simply go to this page where you can purchase a Starbucks gift card.

Select the amount of $10, and put it in your cart.

Then you’ll be prompted to select your payment method — choose Visa Checkout.

If you don’t yet have a Visa Checkout account, you’ll be prompted to enter your email address (if you have a Visa Checkount account, the process is even easier).

Then you’ll be prompted to enter your name, address, and phone number.

Then you’ll be prompted to enter your credit card information.

Then you can check out and complete your purchase. A minute later you should receive an email confirming your $20 gift card purchase (even though you paid just $10). This is super easy.

If you do take advantage of this promotion, keep in mind that Starbucks purchases qualify as dining spend for the purposes of your credit card, so use a card like the Citi Prestige® Card, American Express® Gold CardChase Sapphire Preferred® Card, etc.

Taking advantage of this promotion is an absolute no brainer, as you’re basically getting 50% off a $20 Starbucks gift card. You’ll want to take advantage of this as soon as possible, since supplies are limited.

  1. Actually, your visitors should not consider using a citi prestige or Amex as they won’t work with Visa Checkout… Why should be obvious…

  2. @ qasr — You’d think that, but in practice you can add Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover credit or debit cards to your Visa Checkout account.

  3. @ Lucky — thanks!

@ qasr – Visa Checkout functions much like PayPal — you can pay using any card through it.

  4. Devil’s advocate time….it’s much easier to just use cash instead of keeping track of an E-Gift Card. Yes, the percentage savings is excellent, but the actual dollar savings is small. (I prefer to spend my time leveraging larger dollar amounts, such as credit card signup (and annual) bonuses, Citi Prestige “4th night free” bookings, and so on.)

  5. “The bonus wont be reflected in your checkout experience but will be confirmed in your email receipt. Limit one per person.”

Neither happened and I got charged the $10 for $10 purchase!

  6. @UAPhil
I always use starbucks card and find it very convenient. You can pool money from different gift cards into one card. I don’t even need to carry the card, just scan the phone.
That said, I do agree that for other merchants, keeping track of gift cards is a pain.

  7. Most credit card language about bonus categories excludes “purchases made with a digital wallet” or similar. Are you sure this will qualify as dining spend?

  8. You can buy multiple cards.

I know someone *cough* who got five $10 cards and paid with the Citi Prestige.

  9. Correction – That someone I know *cough* got the $20 card once, and then $10 card four times. Which is fine, as they’ll be used anyway.

  10. Thank you Lucky Ben! This times out perfectly with the rollout of the new Starbucks star earning system. Every club member should be checking their emails for bonus star opportunities. They’re abundant now, so grab while the getting is good.

  11. Great tip. Thank you. My wife transferred the ecert to her Starbucks card on file. Pretty easy process

  12. Only $10 showed up in the receipt that was emailed to me. I called Starbucks and they added the missing $10 bonus. There having a large call volume so it must be a problem for some.

  13. Didn’t work for me! I feel cheated, I ordered $10.00 gift card, visa. only got $10.00 e gift card to print. early as 10:35 am too don’t say starbucks needs more profits, gimmicks. I will settle drive up window and pay cash at window.

  14. Only available in the USA. Surprise, surprise! Starbucks wants to be seen as a global company but has a terrible reputation for avoiding tax obligations in many of the countries in which it operates and for treating international consumers with disdain.
In any event , bad coffee , however cheap, isn’t a great deal.

  15. Just did it from Hong Kong to send my mom a Mother’s day gift. Had to use a US CC (with US Billing address) but it worked as of 9:59 am (HKT) on May 7th.

  16. Bought one today, worked fine. I won’t show the bonus on the receipt but on the egift you will receive in a separate email.

  17. Following all the comments about getting 20 for 10 starbuck purchase, I did buy one, vs $10.00, it did not work only got $10.00.
So I did, as one of the listed commentators did, called the number listed, questioned the fact. Frederick was great , very professional and kind hearted, gave me the additional $10.00 put on my purchase.

    Thank you Frederick.

  18. Worked like a charm. The $10 didn’t show up until in the receipt and confirming email, but it was right there. I have now two useful tips from Lucky in just a week. The 75,000 Hilton points on a Hhonors American Express and a free $10 from Starbucks.

  19. Still working as of 1:05AM EDT on May 12, 2016. Just purchased a $10 card and received a $20 e-card via email instantly after checkout.
