Silvercar is my favorite car rental company. In March 2017 it was announced that Silvercar would be acquired by Audi. The two companies working together was nothing new, given that Silvercar exclusively offers Audis in their fleet. With the investment from Audi, Silvercar was hoping to greatly expand their footprint, and also to expand the types of Audi cars they offer.

Audi is now available at almost two dozen US locations, so their growth has been impressive, as I remember when they had just a few locations. When Silvercar was first launched the only car they offered was the Audi A4, though as of this January they’ve also started leasing Audi Q5 SUVs.

Silvercar is now adding a third type of car to their fleet. Starting June 29, 2018, Silvercar will be renting out the Audi A5 Cabriolet at many of their locations.

The new Audi A5 Cabriolets are bookable now at the following 14 locations, and will be expanded to further locations throughout the year:

  • Los Angeles, CA
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Newark, NJ
  • Brooklyn, NY
  • New York, NY
  • Orange County, CA
  • San Diego, CA
  • Chicago, IL
  • Washington Dulles
  • Miami, FL
  • Denver, CO
  • Seattle, WA
  • Salt Lake City, UT

The 2018 Audi A5 features a fully automatic soft top that opens in 15 seconds and closes in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph, and has seating for up to four.

As you’d expect, the A5 is the highest priced Silvercar so far, which makes sense, since the car also has the highest MSRP. For example, looking at the Orange County location, I see the A4 starting at $59 per day, the Q5 starting at $89 per day, and the A5 starting at $119 per day.

That’s steep, though at least there are some ways to score a discount. For example, if you have a Visa Infinite Card (like the Chase Sapphire Reserve®) you can always save 30% on the cost of your rental of at least two days. Simply enter promo code VINFINITE at the time of booking.

That would bring down the cost of a two day rental from $293.69…

…to $206.64.

On top of that, if you haven’t yet rented from Silvercar, they have a generous referral program, where you can get $25 in cash after your first rental if you’re referred by an existing customer. If you enter my code, BSCHLAPPIG, at the time you sign-up for Silvercar, you’ll get that after your first rental (and I’ll get the same). Just go to the top right of and click on “sign-up,” and then enter your email address and password. Once your email address has been verified you can log-in and enter the above referral code.

The above two promotions should be combinable.

Anyone plan to rent an Audi A5 Cabriolet, or is the premium over their other cars too steep?

  1. “Silvercar is my favorite car rental company.” considering their relatively smaller footprint, wouldn’t it be more correct to add “at airports they serve”?

  2. That’s my car, so i don’t think i will pay to rent it somewhere else in the world.
    Anyway, great choice Silvercar.

Well maybe the silver color doesn’t look too much good on the cabriolet, but that’s the name of the company, so…
