Last December I posted about how Austrian consistently releases business class award space roughly 90 days before departure.
I know a lot of people are still trying to redeem miles for travel to Europe this summer, and typically three months out can be a rather challenging time to book.
That’s because airlines typically release award space as soon as their schedules open, and then again close to departure once they know their seats will go unsold. And that “last minute” space can range from a few months to a few weeks to a few days to a few hours before departure.
Austrian just happens to be one of the few carriers that’s extremely consistent about releasing space 90 days out. And since we’re 90 days from the peak of summer I figured I’d post a reminder of this.
Lets take a look at Austrian business class award space for travel in late July, which is three months from now.
There’s plenty of space on their Chicago to Vienna route in business class:
And on their Washington to Vienna route:
And on their New York JFK and Newark to Vienna routes:
And on their Toronto to Vienna route:
Best of all, availability is even quite good for multiple passengers.
Why you should fly Austrian Airlines business class
Austrian has one of my favorite business class products. Their entire fleet now features their new fully flat business class, but my favorite part of flying with them has to be their DO&CO catering and dedicated coffee menu. I’ve flown Austrian business class from Vienna to Tokyo Narita, and had a great flight.

How to redeem miles for Austrian business class
So nowadays the best ways to redeem for Austrian business class are as follows:
- 70,000 United MileagePlus miles one-way (no fuel surcharges)
- 52,500 Avianca LifeMiles one-way (no fuel surcharges)
- 45,000 Aeroplan miles one-way, plus fuel surcharges (~$400)
- 68,000 ANA miles roundtrip from the east coast, plus fuel surcharges (~$800 roundtrip)
Anyway, while there’s no “amazing” way to redeem for Austrian business class due to the redemption rates, it is nice to have access to tons of award space in a great business class product during the peak of summer, so may well be worth the fuel surcharges and/or number of miles required.
