CX seat selection – AA award booking

CX seat selection – AA award booking

    Hi everyone,

If you’re like me and have a CX F flight coming up, booked just before the AA devaluation… And like me have any trouble selecting your seat online (no clue why the seat map wouldn’t load)… Do note that you can call Cathay direct. But don’t call their customer service # (+852-2747-3333), instead call the Asia Miles line at +852-2747-3838.

You have to input your Asia Miles # to continue and you’ll be connected quickly to an English speaking rep. I just called tonight, was connected immediately with no wait at all, gave the rep my CX PNR and she updated my seat selection in about 2 minutes. (2D -> 1A yea!)

I hadn’t seen any post on this from @Lucky (or anyone else on Boarding Area or Flyer Talk, for that matter), so figured it’d be good to share here.

    Safe travels y’all!

hi @Debo–I’ve had luck just calling their customer service number in the past but this is good to know!

Interesting, since I never had problems with seat selection on CX. I always get the CX record locator number from AA, then go online (CX’s web page), and book our seats there. Always worked for me.

It only works online within six months of departure, and you have to smush your first name and middle name together. But calling works too! 🙂

I actually did that twice immediately after booking those CX seats with AA Saver Business Award tickets as soon as the AA calendar opened, which was around 330 days before travel. I could still immediately book/modify the seats on CX’s website. I, of course do not mind calling airlines to book seats, but with CX, for me, it always worked.

Hi @Tiffany … yeah I’m flying in February. What’s weird is the website will show the reservation and correct flight details… I just can’t change anything. This is the case regardless of the browser I used on a Mac or PC.

Like the PNR, is there a different e-ticket # for AA and CX? The reservation would NOT show up on Cathay’s site when I entered the AA e-ticket #.

is there a way to load the reservation into my Asia Miles account? Wondering if that would allow me to make my own changes online.

Yes, you can try to change it to your Asia Miles number. See this post from Points To Be Made on how to do that.

@Debo the AA PNR differs from the CX PNR. Call AA to get the CX PNR and you shouldnt have any trouble. Also note that if your booking contains multiple partners, there are separate PNRs for each airline. For example, I flew HKG-SIN-AUH on Cathay and Etihad and had separate PNRs from AA (where i booked the award), CX and EY

I had two PNRs before one with United, AA, and Emirates, and the other with AA, British Airways, Aer Lingus, and Alitalia, that was fun to get PNRs for haha
