Check in for BA at Lax

Check in for BA at Lax

  1. Fabrice New Member

Sometime during September I’m planning on flying out of LAX, on the BA268 at 21:35 back to LHR, I am flying in from Denver at 1000am (on United) and want to spend the day sightseeing, is it possible to check in my bags for the LHR flight as soon as I’ve landed in from Denver so I don’t have to carry them around all day? or am I only able to check in my bags 2-3hrs before the flight is scheduled to depart?

Also, what is the latest advisable time to arrive back at LAX in order to catch the 2135?

I’m not sure you’d be able to check bags for BA that early since the first BA operated flight to LHR is at 330pm and the counters open about 3 hours prior to that. You’d have a bit of a wait.

I’d recommend getting back to LAX about 2 hours before since TBIT security lines can get long, though you can clear security in Terminal 4 and walk over via the connector. Hopefully someone else who flies out of LAX’s TBIT regularly can chime in.

Thank you for your reply David, so I’m able to clear security at T4 even thought I’ve checked my bags in at TBIT?

also, I haven’t decide on whether I’m flying Club World or WPT yet, if I fly Club are there “fast track” security lanes in TBIT I can take advantage of or not?

    Hi @Fabrice, and welcome!

You can visit any terminal in LAX by showing your boarding pass, and terminals 4 and TBIT are connected airside. There is a fast track at TBIT, but T4 is sometimes still faster.

No left luggage desks in LAX, unfortunately, so unless United is able to interline your bags (seems unlikely), luggage would be an issue.

    Thank you Tiffany!

On a different note, I’ll be thinking of you all in three weeks time, I’m trying out Singapore Airlines’ B777 operation between Manchester UK & Munich (before it finishes in October)!

Sorry to ask again, but just trying to finalise some arrangements when I hope to visit California in the autumn, I’m considering booking a Lufthansa from Santa Barbara through to Birmingham, UK, (that’s United from SBA-LAX, then LH for the rest of the trip) I trust I can check in my bags all the way through to Birmingham UK from Santa Barbara, however we only have a 1hr35min connection in LAX, I presume we land in either terminal 7 or 8, can we walk to the TBIT without having to re-clear security or not?

I’m almost certain you will have to re-clear security at LAX. I don’t believe there’s a way to get to the TBIT airside. But you should be able to check your bag all the way through, assuming all flights are on the same PNR.

Thank you, yes all flights will be on the same PNR

    Hey @Fabrice!

If you don’t mind feeling like a hamster, it is possible to go from Terminal 8 to Terminal 4 underground (there are signs, but the sign will be for just the next lowest terminal number). You might also be able to take the American shuttle bus from T6 to T4, or even TBIT, if it’s running. From T4, you take the skybridge to TBIT.

It will take maybe 25 minutes to walk the whole way from T8 at a leisurely pace.
