AA DFW>HKG / HKG>DFW SWU “O” Class Eligibility

AA DFW>HKG / HKG>DFW SWU “O” Class Eligibility

1. Anonymous Guest

Hello,

I purchased “O” class tickets to go from IAH>DFW>HKG round trip back to IAH.

I was hoping to use my SWUs for this trip but are my odds considerably diminished or non-existent? Additionally, will I get my full EXP bonus on miles and EQM?

Thanks for your time!

Regards,
TC

Hello TC

Are you seeing confirmable upgrade space on your days of travel?

If so does as Lucky says in this article;
http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2016/02/04/american-airlines-upgrades/
“If you want to lock in an upgrade at the time of booking, you’ll want to book by phone, because they can apply the upgrades when you confirm the reservation.”

I THINK that SWU upgrade are still prioritized in the order of Elite Status and then by time of booking as listed in this article

Do you mean if you will earn the same amount of miles as if you were flying O class without using an SWU?

Hi No Name,

I booked the ticket over the phone and unfortunately they did not have confirmable inventory so I’m on the wait list. I’m going for a Friday-Monday mileage run so I’m somewhat worried about competing with business travelers on a corporate expense account. I’m just under two months from the travel date and their business class inventory has been approximately 50% sold.

My question regarding O class fare was whether it reduced the amount of miles / EQM received regardless of SWU. However, looking at this chart (http://cwsi.net/aa.htm) seems to suggest I’ll still get the miles and EQM of a regular econ seat and that’s alright with me (would be a lot better to have a confirmed upgrade though).

I suppose my follow up question is there any way to improve my odds of an upgrade without having to change my travel date?

Cheers,
TC
