Traveling trough China
Hey everyone!
I am traveling to China on a business trip and have been quite concerned about the whole Wuhan virus. I have done some reading and it suggests that wearing a surgical mask can reduce the change of catching a virus by 85% as it stops droplets.
I am going to wear a mask on my flight for this reason. Has anyone else worn a mask on a flight? Would you feel okay sitting next to someone wearing a mask?
I think I am also going to wear a mask for the whole time I am in China as well. Just so my loved ones don’t worry.
James
I read that flight crews are all wearing masks, so I’m guessing you’ll look quite normal on your flight.
Be safe!
A reader left a very helpful comment on Ben’s post about why he was rerouting his trip, describing the proper masks and ways to wear them in order for them to actually be effective: https://onemileatatime.com/canceling-flights-through-china/#comment-4320415
I have a 5 hour layover in Taipei Taiwan on my way to Bali, and a 2 hour layover on my way back. Do you think it’s okay to follow through with traveling through this airport with the outbreak? Or should I try to fly through somewhere like Singapore or Australia?

Asians wear mask all the time especially Japanese, followed by Korean and Chinese. They’re culturally more respectful than westerner with regard to masks and trying to spread disease like common flu especially Japanese.
In the west, wearing mask will make you look suspicious…
