KAL + Amex, DAL + VS… Speculation

KAL + Amex, DAL + VS… Speculation

So, In Lucky’s article today he does point out some interesting point that are in the deal with Virgin Atlantic Flying Club. One of the more interesting aspects is Delta Airlines ownership stake in the new loyalty program joint venture. I want to highlight a few historic events and marketing things that I have noticed, in addition to where I’m curious where new allies may be forming.

#1. Earlier this month KAL announces that they are dropping Chase as a Xfer Partner.

#2. VS currently has a 30% bonus offer for Xfers from Amex. Wondering if this was put in place to woo DAL and Virgin Group’s finance people, by boosting the amount the cash on their balance sheet.

#2b. Way back when in 2016, Amex had an interesting transfer bonus to Virgin America (VX) which was 35% plus Elevate Gold status if you transferred a given amount. Quickly after that offer had concluded, Alaska Airlines announced their acquisition of Virgin America. I speculatively took up that offer because i frequently fly from the Bay Area to the east coast, for work. But not enough to get top status (Side Note: Those butt-in-seat bonus miles plus the conversion from elevate to AS are making my CX trip on my honeymoon very nice)

#3. DAL and KAL have been aggressively marketing their joint venture on working their asian routes.

#4. DAL and AMEX are long term BFF’s

#5: I had a targeted offer for Amex spend on KAL earlier this year

Question: Could there be an out of alliance partnership with VS + DAL + KAL + Amex that emerges?

Interesting but still unlikely. DL and Amex have a strong financial relationship, and DL has ownership in VS. DL annd KE have a JV but no ownership. And KE has their US based credit card with US Bank.
