EW cancelling recently announced CGN-BOS

EW cancelling recently announced CGN-BOS

    Hi Lucky and OMAAT fans,
long time lurker and reader here, thanks for an amazing blog and for providing countless hours of entertainment! I have a story / question not related to awards / miles, but the industry itself – please let me know in case I’m not right posting it here…

2 weeks ago Eurowings (formerly Germanwings) opened and promoted transatlantic CGN (Cologne) – BOS, with the low-cost BASE fare of 169 € one-way, starting from May 2016 on. They will offer flights 3-4 days a week, returns one-way from 129 €. As I had a trip US-East to Germany in mind around May anyway, I jumped on that offer and booked the oneway CGN-BOS.

As my US-Europe leg was a few days too early for the EW offer, I opted to get a oneway BOS-ZRH-MUC on my leftover Aeroplan Miles. For the return I booked LH MUC-CGN separately then. All seems fine, nice connection, cheap fare.

Today, 14 days after start of the offer, EW informed via email that they “cannot offer CGN-BOS service until May 29th” and cancelled my flight.

I obviously want to avoid a rerouting CGN-FRA-LHR-BOS or any other crazy combination, so I called both EW and LH, just to be told that LH can’t do anything for me, as EW is kind of their company but not really, and EW doesn’t know yet what they will be able to offer me instead.

Long story short, or better to the actual question: Is there a known reason, has anybody heard why EW had to postpone their route by 4 weeks? Why would they open booking on a route, just to cancel it 2 weeks later again? And finally, is there a surefire way to convince LH to give me a MUC-BOS oneway instead, because their daughter EW messed up?

    Thanks for insights,
    Guten Flug,
    Mike

    Welcome.

More like red headed step child, I’m afraid.

Sadly network airlines starting long haul LCC subsidiary’s seem to be taking classes at the Norwegian Air school of airline management, especially when it comes to disruptions in schedule. Remember a video of some very angry passengers of Scoot, SQ LCC sub, and this was at SIN the parents airline home hub.

Think you need an high end expert on this one.
