Travelling through Dubai

Hi Ben….My SS partner and I stayed at the Sofitel Jumeirah Beach in Dubai back in 2015. I had booked a twin bed room for 4 nights – all good. We returned to the same hotel in 2017 and booked the same. On arrival the friendly German front desk manager offered us a king room as one was immediately available. We accepted. We’re staying for one night enroute from Australia to Europe again in a few months – probably in another hotel this time (just reading about your Park Hyatt experience). Should I continue to pre-book a twin room – is there a risk to booking a king?

No risk to booking a king outright. Per a few of Lucky’s posts, a lot of hotel staff in the region aren’t local and couldnt care less.
