Tipping club butlers

Tipping club butlers

  1. Anonymous Guest

I tip club lounge attendants / conceirges pretty often, especially at full service hotels, e.g. the Ritz, and if it is a multiple day stay and they take special care of us beyond the usual maintenance of the club space, cleaning tables etc.

I’m currently considering a stay at the Langham Chicago, which for club level includes butler. I’ve had butler service at the St Regis (which I don’t think is particularly helpful beyond the coffee benefit), but it seems like the butler offering at Langham Chicago is really quite comprehensive and personalized – freebies for special events, taking care of you throughout the lounge, acting as a personalized concierge, even drawing a bath (reviews have reported they set it up beautifully with rose petals and champagne)!

I’m quite confused how to approach tipping; how much and when. Also, at what level of employee would you stop tipping? Reviews suggest the head butler (titled the Director of Butler Services) attends to many guest requests personally. It would be a little weird to tip a supervisory level employee / manager.

    Thoughts?

    We usually tip about 100/night.

Roughly 100 to 120 per night and you should be fine. Up to 150 perhaps if any extra services required. If different persons involved then have a bunch of 10 and 20 dollar bills ready for each interaction. That is what I usually do. You will need to tip a bit more than the numbers suggested above in case of head butler or other senior management though.
