I made Hilton Diamond status last month. I have several Hilton stays coming up later this month. I purposely booked lower or mid-level rooms, hoping for a free Diamond upgrade at least once. I know there are several posts on here about how Hilton Diamond upgrades are at the hotel’s discretion, and can be hard to get.

I also make frequent use of the Hilton app. As Lucky has pointed out a few times, there is a bonus for booking through the app right now.

I enjoy checking in through the app, and choosing my own room… However, now I wonder if that helps or hurts my chances for room upgrade? What do you guys think?

I used to think, “I’ll just check in with the app, and still stop at the front desk and ask when I arrive.” However, now I wonder if I’m already checked in through the app, and assigned a room, is there less incentive to upgrade me?

I may skip the app check in, and go right to the desk and ask. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with this? Thanks!

I’ve checked in on the app then gotten an upgrade when arrived. The app even says so when you checkin on it.

I have checked in via the app and given an upgrade as well. I was also told by a Hilton associate that the upgrades are given out based upon the order you check in. So if you check in online, you are checking in earlier than if you check in at the desk. So, I check in online as soon as I can. Sometimes I let the hotel pick the room, other times I choose the room. I am only HH Gold, so my upgrades are not as often, but I sure love when I get them.
