Guest (not owner) booking at Marriott Vacation Club, through Marriott.com/app
I’m planning a trip for my family hopefully to take around April 2021, if borders are open by then, from home in Australia to Europe. I already have long-haul flights in business class locked-in with miles (Qantas/JAL using AAdvantage, and Singapore using KrisFlyer).
While searching for properties for a few nights near Disneyland Paris for a family of two adults and two kids, with ideally the kids in a separate but connected room, I found the Marriott Village d’Ile-de-France, which is a Marriott Vacation Club property. But as accommodation it seems ideal: standalone villa, separate bedrooms as well as kitchen and living areas, close to but separate from the Disney parks.

I’m Bonvoy Gold, but am aware they don’t honor room upgrades etc at Vacation Club properties. Can one comfortably just book and stay like it’s a hotel, without sitting through timeshare sales pitches? I just want to stay somewhere, but there’s no way it will ever be feasible for us to own timeshare property half a world away.
Bernard, it all depends on how comfortable you are being sold to. I haven’t gone to one of these in years, and of course each property is different, but it typically just consists of a 1-2 hour presentation that you are forced to sit in on. While they will try to sell you pretty hard on the timeshare, your only obligation is to listen to the presentation, so politely saying no is all you need to do.
I would check the T&C carefully. There are timeshare properties that will let you just book a room straight out without having to endure a presentation. Presentation packages are usually discounted and clearly identified. If you are just booking a straight up room then you won’t have to worry about sitting through anything.
If you do end up signing up for one just keep track of the time you committed to and as soon as it is up politely but firmly leave.
I’ve worked for Marriott Vacations Worldwide for almost twenty years. If you book the room right through the Marriott website, and pay cash (or points) it is treated just like a hotel room. The caveat is you do not get daily housekeeping (through you can replenish linens/towels on demand and can pay extra to have a cleaning service).
[U]You will [B]NOT [/B]be forced to attend a sales presentation[/U]. Those happen when you book a package (heavily discounted in exchange for going to a presentation) – you cannot even book these on the Marriott website as they are targeted based on income/age.
I’ve stayed at almost all the Marriott Timeshares, including the one near Disneyland Paris, and they are typically excellent. If you are interested in a family trip to Disneyland Paris, I don’t think you can do much better.
