Diamond Hilton: Question on obtaining status

Diamond Hilton: Question on obtaining status

  1. SusanR Member

I recently applied through the Hilton Honors “Match my Status” promotion to match my Hilton Status (was “Blue”) to my Hyatt Status (at the time I applied, I was platinum in Hyatt).

Hilton responded back that they couldn’t match my status, as I didn’t submit enough information. I lost the email, and didn’t think anymore about it, and decided to concentrate on attaining Hyatt Diamond, which I have just done in the past week.

Today, I received an email from Hilton, congratulating me on obtaining Hilton Diamond Status.

I haven’t spent one night this calendar year in a Hilton branded hotel (all my hotel stays have been with Hyatt, with the exception of two nights at a Holiday Inn Express).

So, my question is – is it just coincidental that I obtained Hilton Diamond status the same week as I received Hyatt Diamond Status (earned through actual stays). I can’t think of any other reason why I would have obtained diamond status with Hilton.

I’m not complaining, just curious about how much information hotel chains share?

@SusanR it would be extremely unlikely for chains to share information. If you think about it they would be giving your competitors a list of your best customers! Flukey things like this do happen. When I requested a status match to Hyatt last year they initially only matched to Plat but one fine day I logged in and I was Diamond. Enjoy!

@Gaurav – Absolutely it makes sense that there would be no reason for chains to share information; I was just surprised by the timing of it, especially as I had *not* followed up with Hilton when they denied my status match request.

Hi @SusanR . You reached Diamond status in May, so do you get to keep that status into 2018? I wonder if hotel status is like airline status. Thanks!

    Hi, @Mimi

My diamond status is confirmed through until February 2018
