Hi,
My friend is traveling to china over the summer. She had booked tickets from YYZ to PVG via CDG and return via AMS on the Air France / KLM / SkyTeam joint venture. They were booked through a small, North America based Chinese Travel agent called e-traveltochina.com. She had originally intended to return August 25th but had mistakenly booked the return for September 25th. We called the travel agent who (aside from being extremely rude) stated that changing the ticket would cost 500$ plus the difference in airfare which is very unreasonable. The callcenter at KLM stated that they could not change the booking until she commenced the first leg of her trip in July when it would cost 300$ plus the difference in airfare to change the ticket. Since returning on September 25th would make her miss almost a month of school which would affect course selections, etc this is uncertainty is not really a good option either. I wanted to reach out to this community to see if there were any cheaper or more convenient options (perhaps even for a cheap routing back on a separate ticket) and while I realize that this sort of amateur mistake isn’t what is usually resolved on here, but as an avid reader of this blog I would like to seek advice from a more experienced community. She had saved up a long time to afford the tickets so any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Unfortunately I dont think theres anything she can do about this. This is clearly a user error, and i’m assuming she’s past her 24hr free cancellation window.

does she have any points to use for one way flight back? OW pvg-yyz are about $800. UA/DL have award flights at 35k +taxes/fees
