What happens when a hotel is no longer with a program

What happens when a hotel is no longer with a program

About a month ago I booked 5 nights at the Sheraton Madrid for next June as part of a nights and flights redemption. As of 12/1 the Sheraton Madrid is no longer part of SPG. If you search SPG for Madrid hotels only the Westin comes up. While I would love to stay at the Westin, I do not have enough points.

Do you think this reservation would be canceled by the hotel? I was hoping to have lounge access from having the SPG business card, but most likely that won’t be honored. Anyone have experiences to share?

    Happy Holidays!

Danny, never been in this situation before but I think these things are probably handled on a case by case basis. I’ve certainly heard of hotels honoring reservations made before they left a loyalty program. Have you tried contacting SPG to get clarification?

If you have a compelling reason and connect with the right representative I’d even try to see if they could switch you to the Westin for no extra points as you’re going to lose benefits for the stay for no fault of yours.
