Using AA miles on Cathay for MileSAaver Business seats

Using AA miles on Cathay for MileSAaver Business seats

Hi guys — I want to use miles for business class at MileSAaver level on Cathay for JFK- HKG

I’ve read the many excellent blogs showing me how to find that the business class seats are available on Cathay for the JFK-HKG (55K business and 62.5K for first), and I can see award seats ARE available on the flights/dates that I want on the Qantas site.

I understand I must now ring an AA agent when the AA seats open up…my question is if the seats are showing as award seats on the Qantas site, does that mean they will automatically be priced at the MileSAaver level (55K for the JFK-HKG)?

Also, if I can see Cathay award seats in business for SYD-HKG-SYD on the Qantas site (which don’t show on the AA site), does that mean I can request to book them for the MileSAaver price, too (ie 35K each).

I’ve never made an awards booking by calling before so want to have all the info at my fingertips! thanks in advance. — Jane

@Janenic — Welcome! Yep, any partner awards will price at the Saver rate, it’s only awards on American metal (literally, when it says “American on the outside of the plane) that could ever be a higher price.

Calling shouldn’t be an issue, just make sure they don’t charge you the phone booking fee! http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2015/06/19/weve-saved-clients-30000-this-year-with-one-simple-phrase/

Thanks Tiffany. You guys ROCK. So funny because when Lucky was doing media interviews in Australia and NZ (I’m in Sydney) earlier this year, people kept telling me about it (I’m a miles/points obsessive…), and I said, Oh yes I’ve been on their site for AGES! Thanks—perfect advice. I can already book that SYD-HKG leg on Cathay in biz right now, for 35K a seat…! Yay.
