USA to Uganda Routing Question

USA to Uganda Routing Question

1. abstern New Member

Hey all! I have a quick question regarding booking award travel from the US (likely Tucson or Phoenix) to EBB Entebbe Airport in Uganda. I’m planning on going late August/early September. I’d like to book my trip from Phoenix to Uganda in business, preferably on Qatar. I’m having a difficult time finding award availability in business directly from the US to Doha, but booking from a European city to Doha doesn’t seem that bad. Would an itinerary of PHX-DFW-LHR-DOH-EBB cost the same amount of points as PHX-DFW-DOH-EBB? Just for reference, here’s my inventory of points:

AA: 110k
United: 30k
Delta: 60k
UR: 100k

Thanks!

@abstern — Welcome! Unfortunately it would require far more points. American allows you to transit via a third region when flying between North America and Africa, but only one third region. So you can’t transit Europe and get the Doha exception.

Thanks for the clarification Tiffany!

As a followup, do you think it make sense to book Turkish business class, or should I save my points for a better business class? The 77W business class is in a 2x3x2 lie flat configuration.

Well, for me I always think the question should be “Do you want to go to ____?”

Because if you actually want to go to Uganda, Turkish is of course a great option! If the point is to fly on the best possible product, then that’s maybe different.

But I don’t think very many of us would not go on a vacation or to a destination we’re interested in because we can “only” get lie-flat business.
