Upgrade with Avios, Earn AA Miles?

Upgrade with Avios, Earn AA Miles?

  1. Anonymous Guest

I have a paid J class ticket on BA coming up. There is availability to upgrade to First using avios, but I can’t do it online because I have my AA number attached to the ticket. If I change the FF# to BA to upgrade with avios will I be able to change it back afterwards so I earn AA EQMs and miles? It’s a BA ticket and BA metal.

    Hey Bermuda Bob,

I *think* you should be able to do that. About four years ago I was able to upgrade a paid BA premium economy ticket to J using Avios after changing my AA# to my BA#. I waited to check-in until I was at the airport and after getting my BP I asked at a different counter to change it back to the AA#. No problem. I don’t know if I was being overly cautious doing it the way I did, but it worked. Not sure if it still does.
