United excursionist perk

United excursionist perk

    Lucky,

I am trying to book a United award flight (PHX-SYD-AKL-PHX) and the middle leg is supposed to be covered under the united excursionist perk, but the website is making me pay the 17.5k for it…
I tried a few other fake booking, Phx-LHR-CDG-PHX (the example listed on united’s page) and it still didn’t work. Any suggestions? is it working for you?

Nope, not working for me either. Very odd…

I have been looking into this Excursionist Perk with United, which Tiffany had extensively written about. I wanted to make a dummy booking just to see whether it would work for me when I want to book flights for real. I started a: IAD-NRT, MNL-KUL, SIN-BNA booking. The website showed the following mile requirements: 80k for IAD-NRT, 0k for MNL-KUL, 90k for SIN-BNA (total would be 170k). However, when I try to book it, it shows 195k miles (I do not have enough miles in my account, but I do not think that that should matter). What am I doing wrong? Thank you.

A couple other blogs posted about this yesterday and it is an issue with United’s system that they are aware of and seem to hope to have corrected by end of week.

The collective advice was to either wait and book once fixed, or book now and screenshot and ask for a refund later on.

@rickyw . That is my luck. Trying it first time and the system is down 🙂
