United Electronic Travel Certificates
I voluntarily surrendered my seat on flight LAS-EWR 2/19/18. In return, UNITED booked me on a red eye flight that evening, compensated me $700 ETC expiring 19FEB19, and gave me food vouchers for dinner. I went to the UNITED website to redeem for travel, and the ETC is voided. Upon contacting UNITED, they said the ETC was voided on 2/21/2018 because I didn’t pay enough for my original ticket. I have the ETC in hand, and had also signed all necessary paperwork to receive such. Contacting UNITED has not been successful. Any thoughts?
Debra, how did you contact United? I would consider escalating to someone higher up. It shouldn’t matter how much you paid for your ticket (cash or miles) when being denied boarding…

I can’t imagine that United would put a cost threshold on the original ticket canceling your ETC after the fact. The Flyer Talk website has a United Airlines forum. It may be a good place to explain your problem and seek answers from there. In the meantime, I would keep pursuing this with UA Customer Service.
