United $125 mystery charge after cancelling awards flight
I cancelled a United domestic economy award flight earlier this week about 5 days ahead of flying. I was refunded 20k miles and the $5.60 fee, but now see a $125 charge from united. I don’t see a fee referenced anywhere in the cancellation and I though it was fee free. Am I missing something? If not, any idea how best to challenge this given the long wait trying to reach a customer rep? thanks.

Are you sure it’s fee free? I know some cash tickets could be canceled fee free but I know at one point Delta was still charging the cancellation fee for award tickets. Given how ridiculous United’s being with holding on to folks’ money for a year after canceling a cash ticket, it wouldn’t shock me at all if they’re still charging for canceling award tickets.
