UA Award Change (Booked Pre-Devaluation)
Booked a somewhat complex award ticket pre-devaluation to Kenya open jaw out of Seychelles with stopover in India on the way home.
We had a 12 hour stopover in Cairo on the way, United unilaterally changed our flight making it a 36 hour layover and disrupting our plans.
How difficult is it to change these pre-devaluation award tickets?
Do you think united will allow us to move around the flights towards the end to make the beginning fit our schedule again without penalty?
The award tickets looks like this
Orlando to Cairo (36 hour stopover)
Cairo to Nairobi
Seychelles to New Delhi (5 days)
New Delhi to NYC
*bump*
I’d call UA directly, after checking that the flight you want has award space available, and asking them to make changes while honoring the previous award price and waiving any penalties because of the schedule change. I don’t think that’s unreasonable
I agree David, this is what I will end up doing. I do have some time, so haven’t gotten around to it and just was curious as to whether anyone has had any experience changing flights post devaluation.
UA’s online tool isnt great when it comes to changes so you’d have to call. I booked an award (post deval) and tried to make a change online but there were issues displaying the correct itinerary and the system wanted more miles. A call to MileagePlus got me the changes I needed. Good luck!
Does lucky not respond to ask lucky posts anymore?
It’s rare probably because Tiffany and other people answer questions just as well. He does seem to pay attention to questions though because he does make posts to answer a particularly interesting question.
Was there something you were hoping to find out from him specifically?
